Chicken is an important food animal worldwide and plays an important role in human life by providing meat and eggs. Despite recent significant advances in gut microbiome studies, a comprehensive study of chicken gut bacterial, archaeal, and viral genomes remains unavailable. In this study, we constructed a chicken multi-kingdom microbiome catalog (CMKMC), including 18,201 bacterial, 225 archaeal, and 33,411 viral genomes, and annotated over 6,076,006 protein-coding genes by integrating 135 chicken gut metagenomes and publicly available metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from ten countries.

Background: Undiagnosed rare diseases (URDs) are a complex and multifaceted challenge, especially in low-and medium-income countries. They affect individuals with unique clinical features and lack a clear diagnostic label. Although the Undiagnosed Diseases Network International (UDNI) definition of URDs is not universally accepted, it is widely recognized.

Drupacine as a potent SARS-CoV-2 replication inhibitor .

Biosaf Health

October 2024

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China.

Despite the availability of vaccines and antiviral treatments, the continued emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants and breakthrough infections underscores the need for new, potent antiviral therapies. In a previous study, we established a transcription and replication-competent SARS-CoV-2 virus-like particle (trVLP) system that recapitulates the complete viral life cycle. In this study, we combined high-content screening (HCS) with the SARS-CoV-2 trVLP cell culture system, providing a powerful phenotype-oriented approach to assess the antiviral potential of compounds on a large scale.

A secure visualization platform for pathogenic genome analysis with an accurate reference database.

Biosaf Health

August 2024

Microbial Resource and Big Data Center, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China.

Investigating the genetic and developmental characteristics, infection transmission attributes, and epidemiological trends of pathogens using genomic data represents the foundation for pathogen surveillance and is a crucial prerequisite for guaranteeing global health security. To meet the analytical demands of research relating to pathogen prevention and control, we designed a secure visualization system capable of pathogen genome assembly, annotation, species identification, sequence typing, antibiotic resistance and virulence analysis, genomic mobile element and transferable resistance gene annotation, and phylogenetic tree reconstruction. For highly pathogenic organisms requiring complete data protection, we have developed a secure computing tool that utilizes a trusted execution environment, is combined with blockchain and privacy computing technologies, and is specifically designed for nucleotide basic local alignment search tool (BLASTn) comparison analysis.

Root rot, a destructive soil-borne disease, poses a significant threat to a wide range of economically important crops. Codonopsis, a high-value medicine plant, is particularly susceptible to substantial production losses caused by -induced root rot. In this study, we identified a promising biocontrol agent for codonopsis root rot, YF.
