Schwannoma of the ileocecum accompanied by acute appendicitis.

A 59-year-old woman presented with a 3-day history of abdominal pain. Laboratory evaluation revealed the following: white cell count, 12.6 × 109/L; C-reactive protein, 69.59 mg/L. Abdominal CT showed an enlarged, fluid-filled appendix and a mass located at the base of the inflamed appendix. Colonoscopy confirmed a proliferative mass in the ileocecum, with superficial ulcer and white fur. Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy was successfully performed and the gross examination revealed a grayish yellow solid tissue in the ileocecum, approximately 2.5 cm × 2.0 cm in size. Pathological findings indicated schwannoma, with the following immunohistochemistry results: S-100 (+), SDHB (+), SMA (-), Desmin (-), CD117 (-), CD34 (-), DOG-1 (-), Ki-67 (3%+). The patient was feeling well at 2 months of follow-up.
