Aim: Patients with gastric malignant tumors usually undergo surgical treatment when indicated. Surgical intervention causes significant trauma and can lead to considerable stress responses in patients. These patients experience increased malnutrition along with reduced immune function, which ultimately leads to the occurrence of postoperative complications.

Purpose: Orthognathic surgery often leads to decreased nutrient intake and increased metabolic demands, potentially resulting in muscle mass loss and delayed recovery. The use of oral nutritional supplements (ONS) alongside nutritional counselling has been proposed to mitigate these effects. This study aimed to investigate the impact of ONS on the postoperative nutritional status of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery.

Hyperlipidemia is a malnutrition disease associated with different lifestyle factors mainly high fat/cholesterol foods consumption and less physical activity. Consumption of high fiber foods (prebiotic sources) additionally to gut microbiota (GM; probiotics species) could overcome hyperlipidemia and its associated risks. Prebiotics and probiotics are known by protective effects in different diseases like diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND Effective assessment and diagnosis using simple nutritional screening tools are crucial for identifying malnutrition in older adults. The aim of the study was to evaluate how effectively different anthropometric parameters, indices, and body composition metrics can assess nutrition-related risks, using the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) in a cohort of 185 patients >60 years. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 185 patients over 60 years old.
