MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been documented to function differently in numerous human cancers. Our study planned to investigate the role of microRNA-140 (miR-140) and to identify its possible target in osteosarcoma (OS) to predict their mechanism in OS. The miR-140 was down-regulated in OS, and its high expression decreased MG63 cell proliferation. At the molecular level, Wnt1 was a target of miR-140, and its expression could be suppressed by miR-140. Besides, miR-140 overexpression decreased drug resistance in OS cells treated by doxorubicin. Collectively, overexpression of miR-140 may inhibit human OS cell proliferation and may enhance drug sensitivity by direct regulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

Encapsulating fibroblasts in alginate hydrogels is a promising strategy to promote wound healing. However, improving the cell function within the alginate matrix remains a challenge. In this study, we engineer an injectable hydrogel through mixing alginate function with collagen and fibronectin, creating a better microenvironment for enhancing fibroblast function and cytokine secretion.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the optimum frequency of oscillatory fluid flow (OFF) for increasing osteogenesis in human dental pulp cells (DPCs) in an incubating rocking shaker. DPCs from 3 donors were cultured in an osteogenic induction medium (OIM) and mechanical stimulation was applied using an incubating rocking shaker at frequencies of 0 (control), 10, 20, 30, and 40 round per minute (RPM) for 1 h/day, 5 days/week. Cell proliferation was measured using total protein quantification, and osteogenic activity was measured by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium deposition, and collagen production on days 7, 14, and 21 of culture.

Bone remodeling, a continuous process of resorption and formation, is essential for maintaining skeletal integrity and mineral balance. However, in cases of critical bone defects where the natural bone remodeling capacity is insufficient, medical intervention is necessary. Traditional bone grafts have limitations such as donor site morbidity and availability, driving the search for bioengineered scaffold alternatives.

Cancer cells often upregulate ribosome biogenesis to meet increased protein synthesis demands for rapid proliferation; therefore, targeting ribosome biogenesis has emerged as a promising cancer therapeutic strategy. Herein, we introduce two Pt complexes, ataluren monosubstituted platinum(IV) (SPA, formula: c,c,t,-[Pt(NH)Cl(OH)(CHFNO)], where CHFNO = ataluren) and ataluren bisubstituted platinum(IV) complex (DPA, formula: c,c,t,-[Pt(NH)Cl(CHFNO)], where CHFNO = ataluren), which effectively suppress ribosome biogenesis by inhibiting 47s pre-RNA expression. Furthermore, SPA and DPA induce nucleolar stress by dispersing nucleolar protein NPM1, ultimately inhibiting protein generation in tumor cells.

With the aging population, the incidence of diabetes is increasing. Diabetes often leads to restricted neovascularization, antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, reduced wound perfusion, and elevated reactive oxygen species, resulting in impaired microenvironments and prolonged wound healing. Hydrogels are important tissue engineering materials for wound healing, known for their high water content and good biocompatibility.
