Wide field of view and light weight optics are critical for advanced eyewear, with applications in augmented/virtual reality and night vision. Conventional refractive lenses are often stacked to correct aberrations at a wide field of view, leading to limited performance and increased size and weight. In particular, simultaneously achieving a wide field of view and large aperture for light collection is desirable but challenging to realize in a compact form-factor.

In recent years, metal halide perovskite-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have garnered significant attention as they display high quantum efficiency, good spectral tunability, and are expected to have low processing costs. When the peak emission wavelength is beyond 900 nm the interest is even higher because of the critical importance of this wavelength for biomedical imaging, night vision, and sensing. However, many challenges persist in fabricating these high-performance NIR LEDs, particularly for wavelengths above 950 nm, which appear to be limited by low radiance and poor stability.

Shortwave infrared (SWIR)-emitting materials have emerged as superior light sources with increasing demand for potential applications in noninvasive analysis, night vision illumination, and medical diagnosis. For developing next-generation SWIR phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (pc-LEDs), the scarcity of intense blue-light-pumped broadband SWIR luminescent materials and poor thermal stability of current Ni-activated phosphors are the ongoing challenges. Here, a blue-light-excitable (440 nm) YAlGaO:Cr,Ni phosphor with ultrawide SWIR emission centered at ∼1430 nm (FWHM ∼264 nm) is reported.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the natural history of the photoreceptor disease in a large group of pediatric patients with RHD12-associated Leber congenital amaurosis (RDH12-LCA), to estimate the changes expected over the duration of a clinical trial, and to define the relationship between the photoreceptor loss and visual dysfunction.
Methods: Forty-six patients representing 36 families were included. The great majority of patients were under the age of 18 years.
