Laser-directed energy deposition (LDED) is an additive manufacturing (AM) technology which can be an alternative to the traditional subtractive milling process for the obtention of porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) prosthesis. Still, the adhesion performance of the veneering ceramics for this material has been not studied yet. The main objective of this study is to perform a systematic comparison of the adhesion performance of Co-Cr-W metal frameworks obtained through LDED and conventional milling techniques. Comparison includes microstructural, superficial, and adhesion analysis. Co-Cr manufactured via LDED technique presents similar behavior (p < 0.05) in comparison to the material obtained via milling techniques, and its performance was validated with the veneering ceramics and veneering composites currently employed in the dental industry.

LiCoPO and LiNiPO phosphate pigments have colorations very close to the primary colors of the subtractive system: magenta and yellow, respectively. These two pigments are therefore of great interest in a variety of applications, including e-reader devices. However, the need to reduce their crystallite size in order to formulate stable electrophoretic inks has revealed that aggressive milling results in significant color changes, particularly for cobalt-based pigments.

Objectives: Numerous studies have been conducted on the adaptation of dental restorations fabricated by additive (AM) and subtractive manufacturing (SM); however, the results are conflicting. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the fit and trueness of fixed restorations made by AM compared to SM.
Data: Studies investigating internal fit, marginal fit, and trueness of fixed prostheses were involved.

Wire-arc-directed energy deposition (WA-DED) stands out as a highly efficient and adaptable technology for near-net-shaped metal manufacturing, with promising application prospects. However, the shape control capability of this technology is relatively underdeveloped, necessitating further refinement. This review summarizes the latest advancements in the shape control of WA-DED technology, covering four pivotal areas: the regulation of various process parameters, optimization of the deposition paths, control through auxiliary energy and mechanical fields, and synergy between additive and subtractive manufacturing approaches.
