The eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1 alpha () gene has a well-defined role in protein synthesis. However, its role in external temperature perception and internal sex differentiation and development is still unclear. In this study, was identified and functionally analyzed in Chinese tongue sole (). The cDNA, 1809 bp in length, had a 1386 bp open reading frame (ORF) that encoded a 461 amino acid polypeptide containing one EF-1_alpha domain. expression levels were investigated across different tissues and during gonadal development. In the gonad, showed a sexually dimorphic expression pattern with a statistically higher expression level in the ovary than in the testis from 6 months postfertilization to 3 years postfertilization. Under high temperature (28 °C) treatment during sex differentiation (from 30 days postfertilization to 3 months postfertilization), was statistically down-regulated in males, while the difference was not detected in females. In addition, the dual-luciferase assay exhibited that can respond to high temperature rapidly. Based on these results, might have a dual role in the perception of external temperature changes and sex differentiation regulation.

Background: Muscle stem cells (MuSCs) undergo numerous state transitions throughout life, which are critical for supporting normal muscle growth and regeneration. Epigenetic modifications in skeletal muscle play a significant role in influencing the niche and cellular states of MuSCs. Mixed-lineage leukemia 4 (Mll4) is a histone methyltransferase critical for activating the transcription of various target genes and is highly expressed in skeletal muscle.

Background: The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) is calculated via the following formula: SIRI = monocyte count × neutrophil count/lymphocyte count. The value of the SIRI in predicting the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) remains controversial. This study revealed the precise effect of the SIRI in predicting GC prognosis through a meta-analysis.

Spotted knifejaw (Oplegnathus punctatus) is an economically important marine cultured species exhibiting a unique complex sex chromosome system (XXXX in females and XXY in males), with males possessing one fewer chromosome (2n = 47) than females (2n = 48) and an abnormally large Y chromosome. Additionally, males demonstrate significant growth advantages over females. Rapid and accurate sex identification is essential for effective culture management, selective breeding, and population control.

Background: We aimed to develop and validate a protein risk score for ischemic stroke (IS) risk prediction and to compare its predictive capability with IS clinical risk factors and IS polygenic risk score.

Methods: The prospective cohort study included 53 029 participants from UKB-PPP (UK Biobank Pharmaceutical Proteomics Project). IS protein risk score was calculated as the weighted sum of proteins selected by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression.

Specialization of the brain for language is early emerging and essential for language learning in young children. Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a neurogenetic disorder marked by high rates of delays in both expressive and receptive language, but neural activation patterns during speech and language processing are unknown. We report results of a functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) study of responses to speech and nonspeech sounds in the auditory cortex in a sample of 2- to 10-year-old children with FXS and typically developing controls (FXS n = 23, TDC n = 15, mean age = 6.
