Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) can be measured by observing the clearance of a suitable tracer from blood plasma after an intravenous injection. Slope-intercept GFR is an estimate of GFR calculated from an exponential fit to multiple blood sample measurements. The precision of the result depends on the uncertainties on all the measured quantities, but the most important factor is the error on the slope and intercept of the fit. However, these two errors are not independent as an increase in slope tends to produce an increase in intercept as well. This study derives the appropriate equations for calculating the precision of the result and shows that, if this dependence is not taken into account, the uncertainty in GFR can be significantly overestimated. The advantage of using Chi-square as a quality control measure is also introduced.

Dose adjustments of direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for atrial fibrillation are based on pivotal clinical trials assessing their effectiveness and safety in controlled settings. However, the appropriateness of these dosing strategies in real-world practice is uncertain. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness and safety of dose-specific DOACs with those of warfarin.

Tin-based perovskite solar cells offer a less toxic alternative to their lead-based counterparts. Despite their promising optoelectronic properties, their performances still lag behind, with the highest power conversion efficiencies reaching around 15%. This efficiency limitation arises primarily from electronic defects leading to self-p-doping and stereochemical activity of the Sn(II) ion, which distorts the atomic arrangement in the material.

Background: The rising incidence of parotid gland tumors, with a focus on pleomorphic adenomas (PMA) and Warthin tumors (WT), necessitates accurate preoperative distinction due to their treatment variability and PMA's malignant potential. Traditional imaging, while valuable, has limited accuracy. This study employs multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) radiomics coupled with serum alpha-L-fucosidase (AFU) levels to develop a diagnostic model aimed at elevating clinical discernment and precision therapy delivery.

The optical control of physiological processes with high precision using photoswitches is an emerging strategy for non-invasive diagnosis and therapies, providing innovative solutions to complex biomedical challenges. Light-responsive cyclic conjugated-dienes (cCDs) have long been recognized for their 4π-photocyclization; however, photoswitching behaviour in medium-sized cCDs has recently been reported, representing a pioneering discovery in the field. Reinforced by previous experimental evidence corroborating the Woodward-Hoffmann rules, this report provides insight into the origin of the exotic dual photoexcitation mechanism devised to achieve thermo-reversible photoswitching in large cCDs with cyclodeca-1,3-diene as a prototype.

However, the optical permittivity of polycrystalline direct bandgap semiconductors like halide perovskite thin films requires a more precise description. Till now, only thermal bandgap fluctuation or exponential decay of density of states is incorporated into the CPPB model.
