Optimal Replica-Exchange Molecular Simulations in Combination with Evolution Strategies.

We have incorporated Evolution Strategies into the Replica-Exchange Monte Carlo simulation method to predict the phase behavior of several example fluids. The replica-exchange method allows one system to exchange temperatures with its neighbors to search for the most stable structure relatively efficiently in a single simulation. However, if the temperature intervals of the replicas are not positioned carefully, there is an issue that local exchange does not occur. Our results for a simple Lennard-Jones fluid and the liquid-crystal Yukawa model demonstrate the utility of the approach when compared to conventional methods. When Evolution Strategies were applied to the Replica-Exchange Monte Carlo simulation, the problem of a significant localized decrease in exchange probability near the phase transition was avoided. By obtaining the optimal temperature intervals, the system efficiently traverses a broader parameter space with a small number of replicas. This is equivalent to accelerating molecular simulations with limited computational resources and can be useful when attempting to predict the phase behavior of complex systems.

This manuscript serves as a follow-up to our previous work, "Bibliometric Analysis: A Few Suggestions," where we highlighted key aspects of bibliometric research and offered recommendations for improving its rigor. In this draft, we expand on those ideas and provide additional suggestions aimed at enhancing the depth and scope of bibliometric analysis. By analyzing 36 randomly selected bibliometric studies, we identified common practices and gaps in the field, which informed the inclusion of new recommendations not covered in our earlier paper.

Developing a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin metal-organic framework plays a significant role in energy conversion and storage systems. This work introduced a facile strategy for engineering ultrathin NiMn-MOF nanosheets on Ni foam (NF) via in situ conversion from NiMn-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The as-synthesized LDH-derived NiMn-MOF (LDH-D NiMn-MOF) nanosheet exhibited an overpotential of 350 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to its better redox activity, hierarchical architecture, and intercalating ability.

Most Mediterranean ecosystems have been profoundly shaped by wildfires, driving the evolution of plant species. Through photo interpretation and field inventories, this research assessed vegetation dynamics from 1984 to 2021, examining how fire severity and recurrence, key fire regime variables, influenced changes in structure and woody species diversity. Using two burn scars (1988 and 2006), we identified four scenarios dominated by Pinus pinea tree species: control (unburned), areas burned once (either in 1988 or 2006), and twice (in both 1988 and 2006).
