Fast and accurate diffusion NMR acquisition in continuous flow.

Published: July 2022

FlowNMR spectroscopy has become a popular and powerful technique for online reaction monitoring. DOSY NMR is an established technique for obtaining information about diffusion rates and molecular size on static samples. This work extends the FlowNMR toolbox to include FlowDOSY based on convection compensation and use of a low-pulsation pump or flow effect correction, allowing accurate and precise diffusion coefficients to be obtained at flow rates up to 4.0 mL min in less than 5 minutes.

A machine learning model accurately identifies glycogen storage disease Ia patients based on plasma acylcarnitine profiles.

Orphanet J Rare Dis

January 2025

Laboratory of Metabolic Diseases, Department of Laboratory Medicine, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, Hanzeplein 1, Postbus, Groningen, 30001 - 9700 RB, the Netherlands.

Background: Glycogen storage disease (GSD) Ia is an ultra-rare inherited disorder of carbohydrate metabolism. Patients often present in the first months of life with fasting hypoketotic hypoglycemia and hepatomegaly. The diagnosis of GSD Ia relies on a combination of different biomarkers, mostly routine clinical chemical markers and subsequent genetic confirmation.

Background: Polymicrobial pulmonary infections, common in immunocompromised patients, often manifest more severe symptoms than monomicrobial infections. Clinical diagnosis delays may lead to mortality, emphasizing the importance of fast and accurate diagnosis for these patients. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), as an unbiased method capable of detecting all microbes, is a valuable tool to identify pathogens, particularly in cases where infections are difficult to diagnosis using conventional methods.

A localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor based on tapered optical fiber (TOF) using hollow gold nanoparticles (HAuNPs) for measuring the refractive index (RI) is presented. This optical fiber sensor is a good candidate for a label-free RI biosensor. In practical biosensors, bioreceptors are immobilized on nanoparticles (NPs) that only absorb specific biomolecules.

School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Wuhan Institute of Technology, Wuhan, 430205, China. Electronic address:

Background: Carbosulfan (CBS) is a widely used carbamate pesticide in agricultural production, its easy decomposition into hypertoxic carbofuran poses serious threats to human health and food safety. Therefore, sensitive and accurate detection of CBS is of significant importance. Conventional chromatography-based techniques require expensive instruments and complicated sample pretreatment, limiting their application for fast detection.

Combination of plasma acoustic emission signal and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for accurate classification of steel.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Key Laboratory of High Performance Manufacturing for Aero Engine (MIIT), Northwestern Polytechnical University, 127 West Youyi Road, Xi'an, 710072, China. Electronic address:

Background: Fast and accurate classification of steel can effectively improve industrial production efficiency. In recent years, the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) in conjunction with other techniques for material classification has been developing. Plasma Acoustic Emission Signal (PAES) is a type of modal information separate from spectra that is detected using LIBS, and it can reflect some of the sample's physicochemical information.
