AI Article Synopsis

  • The study aimed to investigate how Pender's model impacts the physical and mental health of diabetes patients.
  • Researchers conducted a meta-analysis by reviewing ten randomized controlled trials involving 863 participants across various databases.
  • The findings revealed that Pender's model significantly improved health knowledge, self-management behavior, and psychological function in diabetes patients compared to a control group.

Article Abstract

Objective: Our aim in this study was to better understand the intervention effect of Pender's model on the physical and mental health of patients with diabetes mellitus.

Methods: According to the principle of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, various databases, including CNKI, Wanfang Data, SinoMed, VIP, Web of Science, Cochrane, PubMed and ScienceDirect, were searched to collect and select relevant reports for the implementation of a meta-analysis.

Results: Ten randomized controlled trials in 6 foreign reports and 4 Chinese reports were included in this study. A total of 863 participants were involved, including 439 in the experimental group and 424 in the control group. Results of the meta-analysis show that Pender's model has a good intervention effect on the health knowledge (Z=3.371, p<0.050), self-management behaviour (Z=3.781, p<0.050) and psychological function (Z=2.902, p<0.050) of patients with diabetes mellitus as compared to the control group. The subgroup analysis showed that the intervention effect on self-management behaviour would not be affected by the measurement tool used (Z=3.295, p=0.001).

Conclusions: Pender's model showed a good intervention effect on the health knowledge, self-management behaviour and psychological function of patients with diabetes mellitus.

Background: Aging is a critical phase of human, necessitating focused attention on the unique issues, needs, and diseases that older adults face. Self-efficacy has been recognized as a fundamental prerequisite for behavior change in health promotion and health education. Therefore, the present study was aimed to empower older people to improve their self-efficacy based on Pender's health promotion model.

Objective: Structural features of the human cochlea may control early lesion formation in endolymphatic hydrops. This process may hinge on three structural features: the flattened spiral shape of the human cochlea, the toroidal configuration of the distended cochlea duct, and the distensibility characteristics of Reissner's membrane. An analytical method is presented to assess the variation in hydropic distention that may occur in the several turns of the cochlea due to these structural features.

Objectives: Treatment adherence in type 2 diabetes (T2D) is an important factor in optimal diabetes control and prevention of mortality. The present study aimed to determine the predictability of Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM) constructs in T2D treatment adherence behaviour.

Design: The present cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted from November 2022 to January 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • - Immune effector cell-associated hematotoxicity (ICAHT) significantly affects patients undergoing CAR T-cell therapy, and the factors linked to severe forms of it are not well understood.
  • - Researchers identified key pre-infusion and post-infusion factors that predict early severe ICAHT in a study involving 691 patients; these included disease type, blood counts, inflammatory and coagulopathy markers.
  • - Two predictive models (eIPMPre and eIPMPost) were developed and validated, showing strong accuracy in predicting severe ICAHT, with the post-infusion model being particularly effective; an online tool for individualized predictions is available for use.
