Effects of alpha-tocopherol, unithiol and mysclerone on lipid peroxidation, activity of phospholipases and the state of a body antioxidant systems were studied in 115 patients with glomerulonephritis. Administration of these drugs caused a decrease in the content of peroxides in blood and urine, a decrease in activity of endogenous phospholipases, an increase in the content of antioxidants as well as in the activity of antioxidant enzymes. Different effects of the preparations on various steps of lipid peroxidation as well as on the activity of phospholipases and antioxidant enzymes were shown.

In chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperuricemia is a common phenomenon, presumably due to reduced renal clearance of uric acid. This study investigated the effect of xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors allopurinol and febuxostat to prevent oxidative stress in the kidney of two-kidney, one-clip (2K1C) rats. In this investigation, 2K1C rats were used as an experimental animal model for kidney dysfunction.

The encapsulation of curcumin in the emulsions has attracted much attention in functional food development. Herein, the fish oil-loaded silver carp scale gelatin-stabilized emulsions with vitamins were explored for the delivery of curcumin. The curcumin encapsulation had no obvious effect on the formation, storage stability, lipid oxidation, and in vitro droplet digestion behaviors of the emulsions.

Neglecting proper skin care and repeated exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can have serious consequences, including skin burns, photoaging and even the development of skin cancer. UV radiation-induced damage is mediated by highly unstable and reactive molecules, named reactive oxygen species (ROS). To counteract ROS, the skin has an endogenous antioxidant system.
