Purpose: to critically appraise and synthesize the evidence on the effects of vitamin C-based regimens for patients with sepsis or septic shock.
Methods: a broad search was performed on May 2021 to identify randomized clinical trials (RCTs) assessing vitamin C-based regimens as adjuvant therapy for adults with sepsis or septic shock. We used the Cochrane Risk of Bias table to assess the methodological quality of the included RCTs and the GRADE approach to evaluate the evidence certainty.
Results: We included 20 RCTs (2124 participants). Evidence from low to very low certainty showed that vitamin C compared to placebo may reduce all-cause mortality up to 28 days (relative risk [RR] 0.60, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.45 to 0.80, 4 RCTs, 335 participants). Considering the other comparisons (vitamin C alone or combined with thiamine and/or hydrocortisone, compared to placebo, standard care or hydrocortisone), there were a little to no difference or very uncertain evidence for adverse events, SOFA score, ICU length of stay, acute kidney injury, mechanical ventilation- and vasoactive drugs-free days up to 28 days.
Conclusion: Further RCTs with higher methodological quality, an increased number of participants and assessing clinically relevant outcomes are needed to provide better decision-making guidance.

Efficient and green protocols were reported to synthesize 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives in natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). NADES was prepared from ascorbic acid (AA) and choline chloride (ChCl) with reduced or null toxicity, biocompatibility, and low cost. The ChCl/AA NADES was successfully used in the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives via the condensation reaction of aldehydes with 2-aminobenzamide and the three-component reactions of aldehydes, isatoic anhydrides and ammonium salts under solvent-free conditions.

As a new form for supplying vitamin C, orally disintegrating films (ODFs) were developed C based on hyaluronic acid (HA) under varying casting conditions and the properties were analyzed. The films with different thicknesses (2, 3, and 8 mm, for CT2, CT4, and CT8, respectively) were produced by adjustments made to casting height. Two types of 8 mm thick ODFs produced by single or double casting (4 + 4 mm for CTD4+4) methods were also compared.

Favipiravir (FVI) is extensively used as an effective medication against several diverse infectious RNA viruses. It is widely administered as an anti-influenza drug. Combination therapy formed from FVI, paracetamol (PAR) and vitamin C (VC) is needed for treating patients diseased by RNA viruses.
