A Gram-negative, aerobic, non-motile, oxidase-positive, catalase-positive, methyl red-positive, and lipase-negative bacterium, designated A5.8, was isolated from beach sediment of Zhairuo Island located in the East China Sea. Growth occurred at 10-40 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 5.5-9.5 (optimum, 7.5), and 0-2% NaCl (optimum, 1.5%). Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain A5.8 belongs to the genus Ancylobacter, sharing the highest similarity with Ancylobacter aquaticus JCM 20518 (98.0%). Its polar lipids mainly consist of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylcholine (PC). The predominant fatty acids are summed feature 8 (Cω7c and/or Cω6c, 91.0%), and the major respiratory quinone is Q-10. The DNA G + C content is 67.2 mol%. Based on above analysis, as well as digital DNA-DNA hybridization (22.5-22.9%) and average nucleotide identity (83.0-83.6%) of strain A5.8 with reference type strains of the genus Ancylobacter, strain A5.8 was suggested to represent a novel species of the genus Ancylobacter, for which the name Ancylobacter gelatini sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is A5.8 (= MCCC 1K07167 = LMG 32566).

Potentially toxic elements (PTE), such as antimony (Sb), are dangerous putative contaminants for ground and surface waters around abandoned mines and ore deposits in Slovakia. Nearby mines antimony is commonly coprecipitated in ochre sediments precipitated from Fe-rich drainage waters and, therefore, these sites function as natural scavengers of this metalloid. Bacteria are well known to contribute to the process of redox state maintenance, biosorption and bioaccumulation of antimony and, consequently, to antimony precipitation or release from iron oxides complexes.

The cell surface physicochemical properties of should influencing the dispersal and adsorption of spores and hyphae in soil and should conditioning there interactions with organic or metal substances in the bioremediation of contaminated environment. These properties are concerning surface hydrophobicity, electron donor/acceptor, and charge surface. To date, only hydrophobicity of was studied by contact angle measurements and microbial adhesion to hydrocarbons (MATH).

Lavanduquinocin (LDQ) is a potent neuroprotective carbazole alkaloid from species that features a rare cyclic monoterpene/cyclolavandulyl moiety attached to the tricyclic carbazole nucleus. We elucidated the biosynthetic logic of LDQ by enzymatically reconstituting the total biosynthetic pathway and identified the genes required for generating the cyclolavandulyl moiety in LDQ based on mutagenetic analysis, including a cyclolavandulyl diphosphate synthase gene A and a squalene synthase-like aromatic prenyltransferase gene G. LdqG is homologous to carbazole prenyltransferases, NzsG and CqsB4, discovered from the biosynthetic pathways of two bacterial carbazoles, neocarazostatin and carquinostatin.

Concurrent outbreaks of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus serotypes 1 and 2 (cVDPV1, cVDPV2) were confirmed in the Republic of the Philippines in September 2019 and were subsequently confirmed in Malaysia by early 2020. There is continuous population subgroup movement in specific geographies between the two countries. Outbreak response efforts focused on sequential supplemental immunization activities with monovalent Sabin strain oral poliovirus vaccine type 2 (mOPV2) and bivalent oral poliovirus vaccines (bOPV, containing Sabin strain types 1 and 3) as well as activities to enhance poliovirus surveillance sensitivity to detect virus circulation.

Brewer's wort is a challenging environment for yeast as it contains predominantly α-glucoside sugars. There exist two subgroups of the lager yeast Saccharomyces pastorianus which differ in sugar utilisation. We performed wort fermentations and compared representative strains from both groups with respect to their ability to transport and ferment maltose and maltotriose.
