This study reports the formation of Er-doped nanocrystalline cobalt ferrite with the formula CoFe Er O (0.0 ≤ ≤ 0.10) from nontoxic metal precursors Co(NO)·6HO, Fe(NO)·9HO, and Er(NO)·5HO through an easy and economical sol-gel route in which citric acid is served as the chelating agent. The as-prepared powder was annealed at 700 °C for 3 h in ambient air to get the required spinel structure. The annealed samples were subjected to structural and magnetic characterization. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of the samples confirmed the cubic spinel structure formation. The average crystallite size evaluated from XRD data increased from 21 to 34 nm with the substitution of Er due to the larger atomic size of Er than Fe. Moreover, the crystallite size obtained from XRD data are well matched with the particle size measured from transmission electron microscopy images. The lattice parameters obtained from XRD data agree well with the values estimated from theoretical cation distribution and Rietveld refinement calculation. The hysteresis curve exhibits the particles are soft ferromagnetic and the coercivity increased from 54.7 to 76.6 kA/m with maximum saturation magnetization, = 61 emug for 0.10 Er content. The squareness ratios were found to be less than 0.5, which indicates the single-domain nature of our particles. The blocking temperature measured from field cooled-zero field cooled curves is > 350 K for all the samples, which is much higher than the room temperature (300 K). The enhancement of saturation magnetization and coercivity has been explained based on the crystallite size, anisotropy constant, and cation distribution. Thus, the structural and magnetic properties of CoFeO nanoparticles (NPs) can be tuned by Er incorporation and these NPs can be applied in different soft magnetic devices.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) offer high energy density and environmental benefits hampered by the shuttle effect related to sluggish redox reactions of long-chain lithium polysulfides (LiPSs). However, the fashion modification of the d-band center in separators is still ineffective, wherein the mechanism understanding always relies on theoretical calculations. This study visibly probed the evolution of the Co 3d-band center during charge and discharge using advanced inverse photoemission spectroscopy/ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (IPES/UPS), which offers reliable evidence and are consistent well with theoretical calculations.

This study aims to modify raw zeolite with metal oxide nanocomposites to remove nickel (Ni) ions from synthetic wastewater. Novel zeolite-doped magnesium oxide (MgO), iron oxide (FeO), and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrothermal-calcination methods. The novel zeolite-doped metal oxide nanocomposites were used as adsorbents to remove Ni (II) ions from synthetic wastewater.

In this research, 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (MPS) silane agent was applied to modify the extracted wheat straw (WS) cellulose as a natural biopolymer. Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) was attached to the MPS-modified WS (MPS-WS) via in-situ polymerization to form PAN-WS biocomposite. AO-WS amidoximated biocomposite adsorbent was synthesized through amidoxime reaction and the effects of different parameters including agitation speed, metal ion concentration, and adsorbent dosage on its efficiency of Pb(II) removal were investigated using the Taguchi experimental design method.

This study presents the synthesis of a green polymer-based nanocomposite by incorporating green CuO nanoparticles into polyaniline (PANI) for the adsorption of Pb (II) ions from contaminated water. The nanocomposite was extensively characterized using FTIR, XRD, BET, SEM-EDX, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy, both before and after Pb(II) adsorption. Optimization studies were performed to assess the effects of key parameters, including pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial ion concentration on the adsorption process.
