An application of a non-homogeneous Poisson model to study PM exceedances in Mexico City and Bogota.

It is very important to study the occurrence of high levels of particulate matter due to the potential harm to people's health and to the environment. In the present work we use a non-homogeneous Poisson model to analyse the rate of exceedances of particulate matter with diameter smaller that 2.5 microns (PM ). Models with and without change-points are considered and they are applied to data from Bogota, Colombia, and Mexico City, Mexico. Results show that whereas in Bogota larger particles pose a more serious problem, in Mexico City, even though nowadays levels are more controlled, in the recent past PM were the ones causing serious problems.

Doxorubicin (Dox) is an anticancer drug used in the treatment of a wide range of solid tumors; however, Dox causes systemic toxicity and irreversible cardiotoxicity. The design of a new nanosystem that allows for the control of Dox loading and delivery results is a powerful tool to control Dox release only in cancer cells. For this reason, supramolecular self-assembly was performed between a poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer decorated with four β-cyclodextrin (βCD) units (PAMAM-βCD) and an adamantane-hydrazone-doxorubicin (Ad-h-Dox) prodrug.

A trend has been established concerning the research and development of various green and biodegradable plastics for multi-purpose applications, aiming to replace petroleum-based plastics. Herein, we report the synthesis of chitosan (CH) films using lemon juice; these were reinforced with NiZnFeO nanoparticles (NiZnFeO NPs) to obtain improved mechanical and barrier properties, facilitating their future application as sustainable, corrosion-resistant coatings for medical instruments. The synthesized NiZnFeO NPs had a crystallite size of ~29 nm.

Women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) face a significantly heightened risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) later in life. Breastfeeding (BF) has been identified as a potential strategy to delay or prevent T2DM; however, women with GDM often encounter barriers in initiating and maintaining adequate BF practices compared to those with uncomplicated pregnancies. This paradox prompts an exploration into the causes of these BF challenges and considers the possibility of reverse causation: Does prolonged and intensive BF mitigate the risk of subsequent glucose dysregulation and T2DM? Alternatively, do women with compromised insulin secretion and sensitivity, who are predisposed to T2DM, struggle to sustain intensive BF practices? This narrative review aims to explore the interplay between GDM, BF, and T2DM development by examining the different factors that present BF challenges among women with GDM.
