Glyphosate, a broad-spectrum and high-efficiency herbicide, could accumulate in the human body through the consumption of agri-food products. Herein, a ratio fluorescence sensor based on rhodamine B-embedded amino-functionalized iron-based metal-organic framework (MOF, NH-MIL-88(Fe)@RhB) bonded with Cu was developed for rapid detection of glyphosate. The synthesized NH-MIL-88(Fe) was a biconical prism and had a cavity for the embedding of RhB as a reference compound. In the presence of Cu, Lewis interactions with NH-MIL-88(Fe)@RhB cause the fluorescence signal to be turned off. When glyphosate was added, the signal was turned on due to chelation with Cu and hydrogen bonding interactions with NH-MIL-88(Fe)@RhB. Under optimal conditions, the developed sensor exhibited a linear range of 0.60-45 μmol L with a response time of less than 1 min. The sensor was applied in the analysis of agri-food products (tea, soybean, wheat, cucumber), with recoveries between 97.93% and 109.06%, indicating its promising application in agri-food safety.

Anaerobic gut fungi (AGF) were the last phylum to be identified within the rumen microbiome and account for 7-9% of microbial biomass. They produce potent lignocellulases that degrade recalcitrant plant cell walls, and rhizoids that can penetrate the cuticle of plant cells, exposing internal components to other microbiota. Interspecies H transfer between AGF and rumen methanogenic archaea is an essential metabolic process in the rumen that occurs during the reduction of CO to CH by methanogens.

Herein, novel hollow ZnO and ZnO@SnInS core-shell nanorods (NRs) with controlled shell thickness were developed via a facile synthesis approach for the efficient photocatalytic remediation of organic as well inorganic water pollutants. The introduction of SnInS shell layer coating over ZnO enhances visible light absorption, efficient exciton-mediated direct charge transfer, and reduces the band gap of ZnO@SnInS core-shell nanorods. The ZnO@SnInS core-shell nanorods show efficient solar-light driven catalytic efficiency for the disintegration of industrial dye (orange G), degradation of tetracycline, and reduction of hazardous Cr (VI) ions in aquatic systems.

Cyclamen mite (Phytonemus pallidus) causes injury to new growth of strawberry plants and is difficult to control because it is protected by folded leaves and plant crowns. Since cyclamen mite is easily transferred from strawberry nurseries to fruiting fields, dipping transplants in biopesticides may reduce initial populations. However, cyclamen mite numbers at 1 and 3 months-after-planting, and yield and cyclamen mite injury to fruit in the following season did not differ among transplants immersed for 30 s in Captiva® Prime, EcoTrol® EC, Landscape Oil, SuffOil-X® or Kopa Insecticidal Soap or the untreated control.
