Article Abstract

Improving the sensitivity of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) systems is highly desired for in vitro ECL diagnosis and bio-detections due to the often-low content of biomarkers in diseases. And dissolved O (DO) as a co-reactant is considered superior to HO in the most commonly used luminol ECL systems due to better stability and low biotoxicity, but it still suffers from low ECL performance due to the low reactivity of DO. In this study, an efficient luminol-DO ECL system was developed through the complexing of Fe, Co dual single-atom catalysts (D-SACs) supported by N-doped graphene with the luminol-capped Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs). Benefiting from the electronic interaction between Fe and Co metal sites in the relevant D-SACs and plasmon enhancement of AgNPs, the performance of the corresponding ECL system could be significantly boosted up to ≈677-fold under optimal testing conditions, comparable to the classic luminol-O system. Furthermore, the developed luminol-DO ECL system was successfully applied for the stable ultrasensitive detection of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in a wide linear range of 1 fg/mL to 1 μg/mL, with a low limit of detection (0.98 fg/mL).

Thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (HThz), a thiazolothiazole (TTz) derivative with carboxylic acid groups, was synthesized as a ligand for the creation of five MOFs, each associated with distinct metal ions including Ag, Mn, Co, Zn, and Cu. The cathodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of HThz and the resulting MOFs was investigated. HThz was found to generate ECL signals, but this process was heavily reliant on potassium persulfate (KSO) as a co-reactant.

Searching for new alternative to tripropylamine (TPrA) with low toxicity and high chemical stability for the tris(4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium (II) (Ru(dcbpy)) based coreactant electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system is essential for widespread analytical applications. Here, nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) have been discovered to significantly amplify the ECL emission and increase the ECL efficiency of Ru(dcbpy) for the first time. However, the mechanism by which NGQDs act as coreactants is not well comprehended.

Neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by the progressive deterioration of neuronal function and structure, pose significant global public health and economic challenges. Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a key regulator of neuroplasticity and neuronal survival, has emerged as a critical biomarker for various neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's disease. Traditional diagnostic methods, such as Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) assays, face limitations in terms of sensitivity, stability, reproducibility, and cost-effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • A new eco-friendly electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor using carbon quantum dots (CN QDs) was developed for highly sensitive detection of vitamin K (VK).
  • The sensor combined nickel-cobalt nanocages (NiCo NCs) with CN QDs, enhancing luminescent properties and allowing for efficient signal amplification when applied to a poly-L-cysteine film.
  • It demonstrated a detection range for VK between 1.0 × 10⁻⁸ to 5.0 × 10⁻⁴ mol/L, with a low limit of detection at 1.65 × 10⁻⁹ mol/L, and showed effective recoveries in food samples, indicating its practical application.
