Background: This study by the Cooperative European Paediatric Renal Transplant Initiative (CERTAIN) was designed to determine the incidence, risk factors, current management strategies, and outcomes of antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) in pediatric kidney transplant recipients (pKTR).

Methods: We performed an international, multicenter, longitudinal cohort study of data reported to the Cooperative European Paediatric Renal Transplant Initiative (CERTAIN) registry. Three hundred thirty-seven pKTR from 21 European centers were analyzed.

The pathogenic variants in the telomerase reverse transcriptase () gene have been identified in adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, while their connection to childhood diffuse lung disease has not yet been described. Within this study, we present a case of a five-month-old, previously healthy infant, with early-onset respiratory failure. The clinical suspicion of diffuse lung disease triggered by cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonitis was based on clinical and radiological presentation.

Safety and Efficacy of High-Dose Memory CD45RO Donor Lymphocyte Infusion in Pediatric Recipients after Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Cytotherapy

December 2024

Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Department, La Paz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain; Pediatric Department. Autonomous University of Madrid College of Medicine, Madrid, Spain; CIBERER-ISCIII, IdiPAZ-CNIO Pediatric OncoHematology Clinical Research Unit, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Memory T selected cells (CD45RA/RO) as donor lymphocyte infusion are less capable of producing alloreactivity and graft versus host disease (GvHD) compared with naïve T cells. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of high-dose memory (CD45RA/RO) donor lymphocyte infusion (mDLI) after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Indications for mDLI were "as needed" and "as prophylactic regimen.

Immunomodulatory Effect of COVID-19 on HLA-Antibody Profile in Renal Transplant Recipients.

J Clin Med

April 2024

Department of Nephrology, Arterial Hypertension, Dialysis and Transplantation, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to significant morbidity and mortality among kidney transplant recipients. SARS-CoV-2 has been hypothesized to cause an unusual immunological dysregulation triggering alloimmunity and leading to graft rejection. This prospective observational cohort study assessed 321 kidney transplant recipients who had COVID-19 infection.

Type 1 lissencephaly is a brain malformation characterized by agyria and pachygyria and is known to be caused by congenital infections and genetic variations. Here we present a case of a 4-month-old female with new onset infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) with initial etiology concerned for congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) due to a positive urine CMV PCR and maternal viral syndrome during pregnancy. Her brain MRI was significant for type 1 lissencephaly without other radiographical features of cCMV.
