At present, high-damping rubber materials, widely used in the field of engineering seismic isolation, generally have the problems such as narrow effective damping temperature range, low damping loss factor and strong temperature dependence, which lead to prominent dependence of temperature and load conditions of the isolation performance of high-damping rubber isolation bearings. Research and development of high-performance high-damping rubber materials with broad effective damping temperature range, high damping loss factor and weak temperature dependence are very urgent and necessary to ensure the safety of the seismic isolation of engineering structures. This paper mainly reviews the recent progress in the research and development of high-damping rubber materials using nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), epoxidized natural rubber (ENR), ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM), butyl rubber (IIR), chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR), and bromine butyl rubber (BIIR). This is followed by a review of vulcanization and filler reinforcement systems for the improvement of damping and mechanical properties of high-damping rubber materials. Finally, it further reviews the constitutive models describing the hyperelasticity and viscoelasticity of rubber materials. In view of this focus, four key issues are highlighted for the development of high-performance high-damping rubber materials used for high-damping rubber isolation bearings.

The complex mechanical properties of high-damping rubber (HDR), a commonly used seismic isolation material in buildings and bridges, present a significant challenge in civil engineering. In a previous study, the authors proposed an HDR constitutive model that combines a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and an attention mechanism, offering novel insights into the mechanical properties of HDR. The constitutive model was simplified first to facilitate the deployment of the proposed constitutive model within the finite element analysis environment.

Composites derived from plant fibers are promising reinforcing materials for engineering because of their renewable and easily available characteristics. In this study, a simple pretreatment method was developed to fabricate structurally intact bamboo cellulose scaffolds. Water-stable, flexible, impact-resistant, and high damping ratio bamboo-based rubber composites were synthesized using carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex-impregnated 3D bamboo scaffolds.

With advancements in seismic isolation and damping technology, high-damping rubber (HDR) bearings are now widely used. However, significant gaps remain in HDR-analysis model research, with few studies integrating multiple factors, the Mullins effect, and stiffness hardening for more accurate practical predictions. This study classifies the effective behavior of HDR and examines the stress-strain relationships of different behavioral types using more appropriate equations.

To provide a theoretical basis for eliminating resonance and optimizing the design of viscoelastically supported bridges, this paper investigates the analytical solutions of train-induced vibrations in railway bridges with low-stiffness and high-damping rubber bearings. First, the shape function of the viscoelastic bearing reinforced concrete (RC) beam is derived for the dynamic response of the viscoelastic bearing RC beam subjected to a single moving load. Furthermore, based on the simplified shape function, the dynamic response of the viscoelastic bearing RC beam under equidistant moving loads is studied.

Shock-absorbing materials play a vital role in various industrial sectors, including construction and transportation. Among these materials, natural rubber (NR) stands out due to its exceptional elastic and mechanical properties, coupled with its robust crack resistance. Nevertheless, with the rising demand for enhanced damping capacities, there is a need to further optimize the damping performance of NR.
