Purpose: While surgeons agree that perioperative field blocks should be performed for open inguinal hernia surgery, there lacks consensus in the minimally invasive context. Prior small-scale randomized trials study pain scores only up to 24 h postoperatively. Thus, we sought to investigate the analgesic benefits of a bupivacaine transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block in the first 4 postoperative days.

Gualou-Xiebai-Banxia (GXB) decoction shows potential for treating myocardial ischemia (MI), although its underlying mechanism is not fully understood. In this study, a multimodal metabolomics approach, combining gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and H-NMR, was employed to investigate the cardioprotective effects of GXB in a rat model of myocardial ischemia induced by ligation. ELISA assays and HE staining demonstrated that GXB effectively reduced myocardial injury, oxidative stress markers, and myocardial fibrosis.

Objective: To evaluate the association between limb symmetry index (LSI) in quadriceps and hamstrings strength together with hop tests, as a proxy of recovery, and the deviation from being symmetrical (LSI 100%), with a safe return to sport (RTS) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R).

Methods: Athletes between 15 and 30 years old with a preinjury Tegner activity level ≥6 were eligible for inclusion. Data were extracted from a rehabilitation-specific registry, Project ACL (Gothenburg, Sweden) at the time of or after RTS for each athlete.

The adoption of robotic surgery has been widespread and increasing amongst gynecologic surgeons given the ability to decrease morbidity. It is important that plastic surgeons adjust their reconstructive algorithm to ascertain the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery. Herein we report our outcomes of robotic-assisted rectus abdominis muscle reconstruction of the posterior vaginal wall along with a current literature review on robotic-assisted reconstructive pelvic surgery.

Sexual-Sparing Radical Cystectomy in the Robot-Assisted Era: A Review on Functional and Oncological Outcomes.

Cancers (Basel)

January 2025

Urology Unit, Department of Medico-Surgical Sciences & Biotechnologies, Faculty of Pharmacy & Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, 04100 Latina, Italy.

: Radical cystectomy (RC) is the standard treatment for muscle-invasive and high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, but it often results in significant functional impairments, including sexual and urinary dysfunction, adversely affecting quality of life (QoL). Sexual-sparing robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) has been introduced to mitigate these effects. This review evaluates the oncological and functional outcomes of sexual-sparing RARC in male and female patients.
