Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cardiomegaly and aortic arch calcification (AAC) and overall/cardiovascular mortality in hemodialysis patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study and enrolled patients who underwent initial hemodialysis. Cardiomegaly and AAC were determined by chest radiography and classified into four groups according to cross-classification of cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) of 0.5 and lower/higher grade AAC (LGAAC/HGAAC). The relationship between these groups and mortality was then analyzed by Cox proportional hazards model.
Results: In multivariate Cox regression analysis, those in CTR ≤ 0.5 and HGAAC [hazard ratio (95% confidence interval): 2.07 (1.14-3.77)], CTR > 0.5 & LGAAC [3.60 (2.07-6.25)] and CTR > 0.5 & HGAAC [3.42 (2.03-5.77)] were significantly associated with overall mortality; while those in CTR > 0.5 & LGAAC [2.81 (1.28-6.19)] and CTR > 0.5 & HGAAC [2.32 (1.09-4.95)] were significantly related to cardiovascular mortality.
Conclusion: Combined cardiomegaly and AAC predicted overall and cardiovascular mortality in hemodialysis patients.

Few studies have analyzed the freedom to choose their renal replacement treatment (RRT) modality in Spain. In a total of 673 patients with ACKD (stage 4 and 5) seen at the outpatient ACKD clinic of Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain) from 2009 to 2020, we retrospectively compared immigrant and Spanish patients in order to analyze the impact of migration on RRT decision-making and its subsequent evolution in advanced CKD (ACKD) consultation and identifies the social and economic needs of this population. One hundred thirteen (16.

Introduction: Removing uremic toxins from the body is one of the most critical points in the maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) population. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of medium cutoff (MCO) membranes on pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx), early markers of arterial stiffness, in MHD patients over both short- and long-term periods.
Methods: Twenty MHD patients were included in this study.

Background: Patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are at high risk for coronary artery disease. We investigate the trends and outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for stable ischemic heart disease (SIHD) in patients with ESKD.
Methods: We utilized the United States Renal Data System [2010-2018] to include adult patients with ESKD on dialysis for at least 3 months who underwent PCI for SIHD.

The impact of age on the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and all-cause mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients is not clearly understood. We analyzed the association between BMI and all-cause mortality, stratified by age, in patients undergoing HD using data from the Korean Renal Data System (KORDS). We analyzed 66,129 HD patients from the 2023 KORDS database, with data collected between 2001 and 2022.

Background: Limited data exist regarding the safety of direct oral anticoagulants in hemodialysis patients with venous thromboembolic disease. This study aims to investigate the safety of direct oral anticoagulants in hemodialysis patients using national data.
Methods: The National Health Insurance Service database was retrospectively queried to identify chronic kidney disease patients who took direct oral anticoagulants for venous thromboembolism from 2008 to 2019.
