Published: July 2022

We evaluated the characteristics of the top 50 most cited articles on cardiac tumors using bibliometric analysis. Independent reviewers queried the Web of Science database for articles within the past 50 years. Most articles were published between 1991 and 2016, 18% (9/50) of the first authors were women, 52% (26/50) of the articles were focused on cardiac imaging in addition to other aspects of cardiac tumors and only 61.5% (16/26) of these were focused purely on cardiac imaging. A journal's impact factor and the number of citations of an article were positively correlated, r(48) = 0.24, p = 0.048. This study presents insight into the top 50 most cited articles on cardiac tumors and provides guidance for future research.
