Rejection monitoring in facial vascularized composite allotransplantation (fVCA) traditionally focuses on skin biopsies. However, mucosal rejection frequently presents with more pronounced signs of immune activity. To explore mechanistic differences between skin and mucosal rejection, rejection and non-rejection biopsies from allograft skin and oral mucosa of nine fVCA recipients were retrospectively analyzed using histology, multiplex immunostaining, and gene expression profiling, with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) quantified via mass cytometry (CyTOF).

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells may have neuroprotective and tissue regenerative capabilities and the potential to rescue retinal degeneration in chorioretinal diseases including myopic chorioretinal atrophy. Transplantation of human (allogeneic) adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cell (adMSC) suspensions has been clinically conducted to treat retinal degenerative diseases. However, serious side effects including proliferative vitreoretinopathy and epiretinal membrane formation have been reported.

Intrathecal synthesis of immunoglobulins (Igs) is a key hallmark of multiple sclerosis (MS). B cells are known to accumulate in the leptomeninges of MS patients and associate with pathology in the underlying cortex and a more severe disease course. However, the role of locally produced antibodies in MS brain pathology is poorly understood.

The histopathological diagnosis of T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, NOS (T-ALL), is based on morphology and positivity for CD3 and TdT. Early T-precursor lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ETP-ALL) and mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL), T/M, and/or B rarely occur and are usually diagnosed using flow cytometry. Using only formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue raises the risk of misdiagnosis due to underestimation.
