A laboratory prototype of a microcomputer-based analyzer was developed for quantitative determination of formaldehyde in liquid samples, based on catalytic chemosensing elements. It was shown that selectivity for the target analyte could be increased by modulating the working electrode potential. Analytical parameters of three variants of the amperometric analyzer that differed in the chemical structure/configuration of the working electrode were studied.

Realization of a multipath ultrasonic gas flowmeter based on transit-time technique.

Ultrasonics

January 2014

MOE Key Laboratory of Thermo-Fluid Science and Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi 710049, People's Republic of China.

A microcomputer-based ultrasonic gas flowmeter with transit-time method is presented. Modules of the flowmeter are designed systematically, including the acoustic path arrangement, ultrasound emission and reception module, transit-time measurement module, the software and so on. Four 200 kHz transducers forming two acoustic paths are used to send and receive ultrasound simultaneously.

Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1550 Engineering Drive, Madison, WI 53706, USA.

This paper provides a historical review of the evolution of the technologies that led to modern microcomputer-based medical instrumentation. I review the history of the microprocessor-based system because of the importance of the microprocessor in the design of modern medical instruments. I then give some examples of medical instruments in which the microprocessor has played a key role and in some cases has even empowered us to develop new instruments that were not possible before.

ABSTRACT We investigated the use of computer-assisted image analysis techniques for the objective quantification of maize streak virus (MSV) symptoms in Zea mays. We compared independent duplicate evaluations of chlorotic lesion areas occurring on MSV-infected leaves using visual assessment, a commercial image analysis system, and a custom image analysis system employing software developed in our laboratory. Relative to visual assessments of disease severity, computer-assisted image analysis employing both the commercial and custom systems provided significant enhancements in the accuracy and precision of chlorotic area estimations.
