Liver transplantation (LT) is a cost-effective therapy for advanced liver disease. Although LT significantly improves long-term survival, it requires strict control of immunosuppressants and their potential complications. Membranous nephropathy due to a positive PLA2R marker is an idiopathic cause of membrane nephropathy, characterized as an autoimmune attack on the kidney at the PLA2R receptor. Autoantibodies attack the PLA2R receptor, leading to nephrotic syndrome and eventually leading to end-stage renal failure, as in our case. We present a case that involves a patient who presented to the nephrology clinic with nephrotic range proteinuria and a history of HIV.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with a number of immunological aberrations in the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune responses. Spontaneous and induced mouse models of the disease have contributed significantly to the advancement in lupus treatments. The involvement of humanized models, engrafted with lupus patients' immune cells, represented the possibility to study the development of SLE.
