Since its discovery as a mechanosensitive transcription factor in endothelial networks, Klf2's varying expression levels under different blood flow patterns remained a mystery. In this study, Coon et al. (2022. J. Cell Biol.https://doi.org/10.1083/jcb.202109144) discover a connection between sustained laminar shear stress and mitochondrial flux that contributes to Klf2's transcriptional dynamics.

Brain macrophages in vascular health and dysfunction.

Trends Immunol

December 2024

Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. Electronic address:

Diverse macrophage populations inhabit the rodent and human central nervous system (CNS), including microglia in the parenchyma and border-associated macrophages (BAMs) in the meninges, choroid plexus, and perivascular spaces. These innate immune phagocytes are essential in brain development and maintaining homeostasis, but they also play diverse roles in neurological diseases. In this review, we highlight the emerging roles of CNS macrophages in regulating vascular function in health and disease.

A highly sensitive and rapid LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for the quantification of dexamethasone in rat plasma and brain tissue. Protein precipitation method was used for sample preparation. The separation of dexamethasone and the IS (labetalol) was achieved on an Atlantis dC column using an isocratic mobile phase (10 mM ammonium formate and acetonitrile, 25/75, v/v) delivered at 0.

Ischemia and hypoxia caused by vascular injury intensify nerve damage. Skin precursor-derived Schwann cells have demonstrated an accelerated in vivo pre-vascularization of tissue-engineered nerves. Furthermore, extracellular vesicles from skin precursor-derived Schwann cells (SKP-SC-EVs) show the potential in aiding peripheral nerve regeneration.

To compare the efficacy and safety of low-power holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (LP-HoLEP) with plasma kinetic resection of prostate (PKRP). Sixty-three patients treated with transurethral LP-HoLEP (observation group) and 68 patients treated with transurethral PKRP (control group) at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from November 2019 to November 2022 were retrospectively compared with regard to operation duration, intra-operative blood loss, prostate resection ratio, postoperative bladder irrigation time, postoperative indwelling urinary catheter time, postoperative urinary incontinence incidence, International Prostate Symptom Scale (IPSS), maximum urine flow rate (Qmax), and residual urine volume (RUV). In both groups, postoperative IPSS, Qmax, and RUV were significantly improved compared to preoperative values (P < 0.
