Nanofibrous nonwoven fabrics have attracted attention as porous adsorbents with high specific surface areas for the safe and efficient treatment of spilled organic dyes and petroleum. For this purpose, a method of fabricating porous nanofibers with high specific surface areas would be highly beneficial. In this study, the phase separation in nanofibers electrospun from blended solutions of immiscible polymers [poly(styrene) (PS) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP)] was investigated. The removal of PVP as a sacrificial polymer afforded the imprinting of mesopores (40-70 nm) in the PS nanofibers. The effects of solution composition (PS/PVP in ,-dimethylformamide) on the structure formation in the fibers were investigated. The nanofibers thus obtained could selectively adsorb low-molecular-weight hydrophobic dyes, such as Nile Red and Oil Red O. Thus, it is expected that the combined approach of electrospinning of immiscible polymer blends and phase separation-induced patterning can be applied to the fabrication of functional nanofibers for diverse applications.

Solar desalination is one of the effective means to alleviate water scarcity, in which aerogel-like evaporators have attracted extensive attention in the field of efficient desalination. However, the current preparation methods for aerogels still mainly rely on high-cost solutions, such as freeze-drying or supercritical drying. Herein, a preparation scheme for aerogels that can be realized under atmospheric pressure conditions is reported.

Thermal management is a key link in improving energy utilization and preparing insulation materials with excellent performance is the core technological issue. Complex and irregular pore structures of insulation materials hinder the exploration of structure-property relationships and the further promotion of material performance. Ordered mesoporous silica (OMS) is a kind of porous material with ordered frameworks.

The limited transport of oxygen at the solid-liquid interface and the poor charge separation efficiency of single catalyst significantly impedes the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby weakening the application potential of photocatalytic technology in water pollution control. Herein, a hollow porous photocatalytic aerogel sphere (calcium alginate/cellulose nanofibers (CA/CNF)) loaded BiOBr/TiC, combining a favourable mass transfer structure with effective catalytic centers was firstly presented. The floatability and hollow pore structure facilitated rapid O transfer via a triphase interface, thereby promoting the generation of ROS.

Activated carbon is extensively utilized in blood purification applications. However, its performance has been significantly limited by their poor blood compatibility. In this work, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCN) and activated carbon (AC) were used to form composite beads by the drop curing method to improve hemocompatibility.

Passive Radiant Cooling and Heating are green and sustainable methods of radiant heat management without consuming additional energy. However, the absorption of sunlight and poor insulation of materials can reduce radiative cooling and also affect radiative heating performance. Herein, we have constructed porous hierarchical dual-mode silk nanofibrous aerogel (SNF) films with high mechanical toughness and stability using silk nanofibers/GO.
