Effect of fiber orientation and placement on fracture resistance of large class II mesio-occluso-distal cavities in maxillary premolars: An study. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Background And Aim: To analyze the outcome of fiber placement and orientation over fracture resistance in wide Class II (Mesio-occluso-distal [MOD]) cavities prepared on maxillary premolars.

Materials And Methods: After selection of 120 extracted human maxillary premolars, Class II (MOD) cavities were prepared maintaining uniform dimensions and samples were divided into six groups randomly ( = 20 each): Group I, G-aenial posterior; Group II, G-aenial posterior + Horizontal Ribbond placement on gingival and pulpal floor; Group III, G-aenial posterior + Horizontal Ribbond placement only on pulpal floor; Group IV, G-aenial posterior + vertical Ribbond placement on gingival and pulpal floor; Group V, G-aenial posterior + Ribbond chips; Group VI, Ever-X posterior. After restorations and completion of thermocycling process, universal testing machine measured the fracture resistance of all samples. Fracture modes were inspected under stereomicroscope. Analyzation of data was performed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey test at significance levels of < 0.05.

Results: Fiber placement significantly increased fracture resistance. The highest fracture resistance was shown by Group 2 (1288.8 N) followed by Group 3 (976 N), group 4 (942.3 N), Group 5 (876.3 N), and Group 6 (833 N). Group 1 (No Fiber group) showed the least fracture resistance of 588.41 N. Repairable fractures were seen highest with Group 2 (80%) followed by Group 6 (70%) and least in Group 1 (30%).

Conclusions: Horizontal orientation of polyethylene fiber on both pulpal and gingival floor of MOD cavities gives the highest fracture resistance in maxillary premolars and repairable mode of fracture.

Background: Achondroplasia, the most common form of rhizomelic dwarfism, occurs in approximately 1 in 25,000 individuals. Clinical features include attenuated growth, rhizomelic limb shortening, and craniofacial abnormalities. Limb-lengthening surgery is widely employed to improve quality of life.

Background: This study evaluates the fracture resistance of apical plugs created from Biodentine and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in thicknesses of 3 and 5 mm within simulated open apex tooth models.

Methods: Fifty human maxillary central incisors were obtained from a pool of freshly extracted teeth. In order to replicate open apices without cavity preparation, ten teeth in the control group received apical-to-coronal preparation with Peeso reamers.

Edge Chipping Resistance and Flexural Strength of CAD-CAM Ceramics Before and After Thermomechanical Aging.

J Esthet Restor Dent

December 2024

Department of Prosthodontics and Research Institute of Oral Science, College of Dentistry, Gangneung-Wonju National University, Gangneung, Republic of Korea.

Objectives: To evaluate the complementary mechanical properties of dental ceramics using edge chipping resistance (Rea) and flexural strength before and after thermomechanical aging.

Material And Methods: Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing of ceramic materials, including zirconia (ZR), lithium disilicate (LS2), and resin nanoceramics (RNC), were evaluated. Specimens for flexural strength testing were fabricated with dimensions of 3 × 4 × 25 mm, with 30 specimens per group.

Purpose: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are essential for guiding rehabilitation interventions. However, CPGs specifically addressing rehabilitation for osteoporosis patients remain scarce in the literature. This review aims to present, compare, and summarize recent guidelines and evidence, highlighting best practices in osteoporosis rehabilitation management.
