Background: Melanoides tuberculata is a freshwater snail that serves as an intermediate host for 11 parasitic flukes. This study was conducted with the aim of identifying and screening the snail intermediate hosts in the study site for schistosomiasis using the molecular technique.
Methods: DNA was extracted from the snails by the hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide method and the Dra1 primer was used to amplify the Dra1 repeated sequence of Schistosoma haematobium.
Results: The presence of schistosome DNA in M. tuberculata by polymerase chain reaction was confirmed.
Conclusions: Our findings show that M. tuberculata is a potential intermediate host of schistosomes.

Identifying the baseline status and the timing of ecosystem disturbances are essential for restoration programs. The historical bioaccumulation of heavy metals was assessed from an 80-cm-long core from the Manzala Lagoon (Nile Delta). The heavy metal concentrations increased slightly upward and peaked around 1964, after the completion of Aswan High Dam.

We show that the globally invasive, human-infectious flatworm, , possesses the most physically specialized soldier caste yet documented in trematodes. Soldiers occur in colonies infecting the first intermediate host, the freshwater snail , and are readily distinguishable from immature and mature reproductive worms. Soldiers possess a pharynx five times absolutely larger than those of immature and mature reproductives, lack a germinal mass, and have a different developmental trajectory than reproductives, indicating that soldiers constitute a reproductively sterile physical caste.

Urban parks are not only important for the wellbeing of the human population, but are also widely considered to be potentially important sites for the conservation of biodiversity. However, they may offer risk parasitic infections, such as schistosomiasis and fascioliasis, which are both transmitted by freshwater snails. The present study investigated the occurrence of freshwater gastropods in urban parks of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, and their possible infection by helminths of medical-veterinary importance.

Objective: To investigate the population distribution of intermediate host snails and crabs of along the Jiulongjiang River, Zhangjiang River, and Dongxi River basins in Bopingling Mountain, southern Fujian Province, so as to provide baseline data for researches on parasitic disease prevention and control and enlargement of samples in the parasitic resource bank.
Methods: A total of 23 villages in 8 counties (districts) along the Jiulong River, Zhangjiang River, and Dongxi River basins in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province were selected as survey sites during the period from November 2020 through March 2023, and snail and freshwater crabs were sampled from 1 to 3 streams and ditches neighboring residential areas in each village. Morphological identification of snails was performed according to the external morphological characteristics of collected snail shells, and the unidentified snail species sampled from the natural foci of paragonimiasis in Yunxiao County were subjected to se-quence analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 () gene.
