The hand block printing technique practiced in Dhar District of Madhya Pradesh involves highly repetitive tasks with awkward posture, which contribute to the development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among the artisans, The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of MSDs and the risks factors involved. An observational study and a self-reported questionnaire study were conducted with a sample of 70 artisans. The working postures of the artisans were analyzed using rapid upper limb assessment (RULA) and the occupational repetitive actions (OCRA) method.  ≤ 0.05 was considered significant throughout the study. . MSDs in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrist/forearm, lower back and hips/thighs were found to be highly prevalent among artisans of age greater than 31 years and experience greater than 11 years. Most complaints were reported in the wrist, neck and lower back region. . From the findings, it was evident that artisans working in Bagh printing are at high risk of the development of MSDs; thus, an immediate intervention is needed to eliminate the ergonomic risks among the artisans.

Artisan bread, known for its simple recipes, natural ingredients, and traditional techniques, has seen a surge in demand, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. Small bakeries emphasize extended fermentation processes and prioritize sensory qualities in their products. However, the impact of ingredients on the quality characteristics of artisan bread remains underexplored.

Climate geroscience: the case for 'wisdom-inquiry' science.

Biol Lett

December 2024

Department of Political Studies, Queen's University Kingston, Ontario K7L 3N6, Canada.

Why should, and how can, the fields of climate science and geroscience (which studies the biology of ageing) facilitate the cross-disciplinary collaboration needed to ensure that human and planetary health are both promoted in the future of an older, and warmer, world? Appealing to the ideal of 'wisdom-oriented' science (Maxwell 1984 In ), where scientists consider themselves to be artisans working for the public good, a number of the real-world epistemic constraints on the scientific enterprise are identified. These include communicative frames that stoke intergenerational conflict (rather than solidarity) and treat the ends of planetary and human health as independent 'sacred values' (Tetlock 2003 , 320-324) rather than as ends. To foster 'climate geroscience'-the field of knowledge and translational science at the intersection of climate science and geroscience-researchers in both fields are encouraged to think of novel ways they could make researchers from the other field 'conversationally' present when framing the aspirations of their respective fields, applying for grant funding and designing their conferences and managing their scientific journals.

Leather industry is traditionally characterized by the use of large amounts of chemical agents, some of which are toxic to human health and the environment. However, during the last years, many efforts have been made with the aim of successfully implement enzymes as agents for different leather production stages. The lipopeptides produced by the Bacillus spp.

The development of defect-free flint glass for use in telescopes and navigational instruments was a key technological challenge facing European chemists, natural philosophers, and artisans that emerged in the 1750s. In 1805, Pierre-Louis Guinand, a Swiss artisan, invented a fireclay stirrer used to stir molten flint glass to create a homogenous mixture relatively free of defects. In this paper, I show it was not Guinand, but French chemist Antoine Baumé, who first came up with the idea of using a fireclay stirrer.

The present study aims to deepen the knowledge of the microbiota, gross composition, physico-chemical and morpho-textural features, biogenic amines content and volatilome of Njeguški cheese, one of the most popular indigenous cheeses produced in Montenegro. Cheese samples were collected in duplicate from three different batches produced by three Montenegrin artisan producers. For the first time, the microbiota of Njeguški cheese was investigated using both culture-dependent techniques and metagenomic analysis.
