Wetland species commonly exhibit a range of strategies to cope with water stress, either through drought tolerance or through avoidance of the period of limited water availability. Natural populations provide a genetic resource for ecological remediation and may also have direct economic value. We investigated the effects of drought stress on the seed germination of wetland species. Nineteen species were germinated in four concentrations of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG) and were evaluated daily (12-h light photoperiod) or after 35 days (continuous darkness) to determine seed germination under water stress. Germination percentage decreased with an increase in polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG) concentration, but species' germination response to PEG concentration varied significantly. Seeds recovered their germinability after the alleviation of water stress, but the extent of recovery was species-dependent.

To explore the effects of salt-tolerance gene accumulation on salt tolerance in transgenic plant, we used four types of plant expression vector (N27, N28, N29, and N30) carrying mtlD, mtlD + gutD, mtlD + gutD + BADH, mtlD + gutD + BADH + sacB genes respectively, to transform tobacco through Agrobacterium-mediated method. Transgenic lines were identified through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection. Transgenic lines and non-transgenic plant (CK) were subjected to 6‰ sodium chloride solution stress; then, fluorescence quantitative PCR (FQ-PCR) and salt tolerance indexes were used to assess characteristics.

This study compares the efficacy and safety of tolvaptan versus fluid restriction in patients with hyponatremia and SIADH.
Materials And Methods: an observational cohort study was conducted with 186 patients with hyponatremia (Na+ < 135 mmol/L) due to SIADH, treated at the Hospital Universitario de Pontevedra between 2015 and 2022.

Stomata control plant water loss and photosynthetic carbon gain. Developing more generalized and accurate stomatal models is essential for earth system models and predicting responses under novel environmental conditions associated with global change. Plant optimality theories offer one promising approach, but most such theories assume that stomatal conductance maximizes photosynthetic net carbon assimilation subject to some cost or constraint of water.

The steep temperature gradient near the bottom of the mantle is known to generate a negative correlation between the shear wave velocity ( ) and the depth in most regions of the D″ layer, as detected by seismological observations. However, increasing with depth is observed at the D″ layer beneath Central America, where the Farallon slab sinks, and the origin of this anomaly has not been well constrained. Here, we calculate the thermoelastic constants and obtain the elastic wave velocities of hydrous phase H with various Al contents and cation configurations, which may act as a water carrier to the D″ layer.
