Prediction of pulmonary embolism by an explainable machine learning approach in the real world.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Changhai Hospital, The Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

In recent years, large amounts of researches showed that pulmonary embolism (PE) has become a common disease, and PE remains a clinical challenge because of its high mortality, high disability, high missed and high misdiagnosed rates. To address this, we employed an artificial intelligence-based machine learning algorithm (MLA) to construct a robust predictive model for PE. We retrospectively analyzed 1480 suspected PE patients hospitalized in West China Hospital of Sichuan University between May 2015 and April 2020.

Background: The detection of a local per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) pollution hotspot in Zwijndrecht (Belgium) necessitated immediate action to address health concerns of the local community. Several human biomonitoring (HBM) studies were initiated, gathering cross-sectional exposure data from more than 10,000 participants. The linkage of these HBM data with primary care health registries might be a useful new tool in environmental health analysis.

Background: The Danish clinical quality registries monitor and improve the quality of care, using quality indicators and defined development targets referred to as 'standards'. This study aims to investigate the fulfilment of standards in the Danish clinical quality registries in cancer care and screening.

Methods: Data was included from annual reports in the 27 Danish clinical quality registries in cancer care and screening.

Efficient recombinant protein production requires mammalian stable cell lines or often relies on inefficient transfection processes. Baculoviral transduction of mammalian cells (BacMam) offers cost-effective and robust gene transfer and straightforward scalability. The advantages over conventional approaches are, no need of high biosafety level laboratories, efficient transduction of various cell types and transfer of large transgenes into host cells.
