We developed here an iodine-containing probe that can be used to identify the molecules of interest in secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) by simple immunolabelling procedures. The immunolabelled iodine probe was readily combined with previously-developed SIMS probes carrying fluorine, to generate dual-channel SIMS data. This probe should provide a useful complement to the currently available SIMS probes, thus expanding the scope of this technology.

Introduction: During Interventional Cardiology (IC) and Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures operators' gloves, guide wires and catheters may stick together due to the inherent stickiness of Iodine Containing Contrast Media (ICCM). This may result in displacement of materials, compromising technical success. In this study we compare the stickiness of seven frequently used types of ICCM.

Peracetic acid (PAA) is an alternative disinfectant for saline wastewaters, and hypohalous acids are typically regarded as the reactive species for oxidation and disinfection. However, new results herein strongly suggest that reactive radicals instead of HOI primarily contributed to decontamination during PAA treatment of iodine-containing wastewater. The presence of I could greatly accelerate the micropollutants (e.

Fragment-based drug design using X-ray crystallography is a powerful technique to enable the development of new lead compounds, or probe molecules, against biological targets. This study addresses the need to determine fragment binding orientations for low-occupancy fragments with incomplete electron density, an essential step before further development of the molecule. Halogen atoms play multiple roles in drug discovery due to their unique combination of electronegativity, steric effects and hydrophobic properties.

Magnesium iodide (MgI) solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) layers have previously been shown to protect Mg metal anodes from passivation through products formed during Mg(TFSI) electrolyte decomposition (TSFI = trifluorosulfonimide). MgI formed from small quantities of I added to the electrolyte shows a drastic decrease in the overpotential for magnesium deposition and stripping. In this work, a MgI SEI layer was created in an fashion and then the electrochemical characteristics of this MgI SEI layer were probed both alone and with small quantities of I or BuNI additives to identify the electroactive species.

Protease-cleavable supramolecular oligopeptide nanofilaments are promising materials for targeted therapeutics and diagnostics. In these systems, single amino acid substitutions can have profound effects on the supramolecular structure and consequent proteolytic degradation, which are critical parameters for their intended applications. Herein, we describe changes to the self-assembly and proteolytic cleavage of iodine containing sequences for future translation into matrix metalloprotease (MMP-9)-activated supramolecular radio-imaging probes.
