This study proposes a semi-parametric estimation method, Box-Cox power transformation unconditional quantile regression, to estimate the impact of changes in the distribution of the explanatory variables on the unconditional quantile of the outcome variable. The proposed method consists of running a nonlinear regression of the recentered influence function (RIF) of the outcome variable on the explanatory variables. We also show the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator and apply the estimation method to address an existing puzzle in labor economics-why the 50th/10th percentile wage gap has been falling in the USA since the late 1980s. Our results show that declining unionization can explain approximately 10% of the decline in the 50/10 wage gap in 1990-2000 and 23% in 2000-2010.

We examined how generalized and mathematics-specific language skills predicted the word-problem performance of students with mathematics difficulty. Participants included 325 third-grade students in the southwestern United States who performed at or below the 25th percentile on a word-problem measure. We assessed generalized language skills in word reading, passage comprehension, and vocabulary knowledge.

Design: Retrospective longitudinal study.
Setting: All 148 NHS acute trusts in England (1 April 2010 to 30 March 2019), excluding specialist and community NHS hospital trusts.

We test the hypothesis whether levels of key traits of sheep heterogeneously affect market prices of sheep in a rural setting. Feasible generalized least squares and (un)conditional quantile regression estimations were made on a dataset of 1153 sheep transactions in two primary small ruminant markets in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. The empirical results show that animal traits affect the observed prices of sheep differently, but only partly explain the sheep price differences.

Background: Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are environmental contaminants present in a wide range of consumer products and frequently detected in drinking water. They have been linked to adverse reproductive health outcomes in women, but there is limited human evidence on the association of PFAS exposure with endometriosis.
Objective/aim: To explore the association between plasma concentrations of several PFAS, considered individually and as a mixture, and the risk of endometriosis in women of childbearing age.

Quantifying how an exposure affects the entire outcome distribution is often important, e.g., for outcomes such as blood pressure which have non-linear effects on long-term morbidity and mortality.
