COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It rapidly escalated into a global pandemic, causing more than 6 million fatalities by March 2022, a little over 2 years since its emergence in December 2019. The first peptidomimetic coronavirus main protease inhibitor, nirmatrelvir, was granted Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. FDA on Dec 22, 2021. Less than a month after its patent application, Hoffmann La-Roche scientists filed a patent application describing azadipeptide peptidomimetic inhibitors (WO 2022/043374 A1). This patent highlight reveals the structure-activity relationship of key azadipeptide inhibitors described in the patent.

is a critical priority pathogen and causes life-threatening acute and biofilm-associated chronic infections. The choice of suitable treatment for complicated infections requires lengthy culturing for species identification from swabs or an invasive biopsy. To date, no fast, pathogen-specific diagnostic tools for infections are available.

Zeolite coatings are studied as molecular sieves for membrane separation, membrane reactors, and chemical sensor applications. They are also studied as anticorrosive films for metals and alloys, antimicrobial and hydrophobic films for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and dielectrics for semiconductor applications. Zeolite coatings are synthesized by hydrothermal, ionothermal, and dry-gel conversion approaches, which require high process temperatures and lengthy times (ranging from hours to days).

Four new macrolides, spirosnuolides A-D (-, respectively), were discovered from the termite nest-derived sp. INHA29. Spirosnuolides A-D are 18-membered macrolides sharing an embedded [6,6]-spiroketal functionality inside the macrocycle and are conjugated with structurally uncommon side chains featuring cyclopentenone, 1,4-benzoquinone, hydroxyfuroic acid, or butenolide moieties.

X-ray dark-field imaging highlights sample structures through contrast generated by sub-resolution features within the inspected volume. Quantifying dark-field signals generally involves multiple exposures for phase retrieval, separating contributions from scattering, refraction, and attenuation. Here, we introduce an approach for non-interferometric X-ray dark-field imaging that presents a single-parameter representation of the sample.

The accurate quantification of nuclear factor Kappa B p65 (NF-κB p65) is critical for understanding inflammatory mechanisms, especially in HIV-1 infected individuals, where NF-κB p65 contributes to chronic immune activation. Conventional methods such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and western blotting are limited in terms of sensitivity and reproducibility. This study aimed to devise a standardized real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assay for NF-κB p65 using specifically designed primers and a probe.
