MOF-5 with a Zn(ii) cluster and terephthalic acid is a distinctive porous material among the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with unique physical, chemical and mechanical properties. MOF-5 based composites possess ample applications in modern chemistry. Huge surface area, suitable pore dimensions and scope of tunability make MOF-5 noteworthy in advanced materials. The extensive features of MOF-5 provided an opportunity for researchers to explore atomic/molecular scale materials. Various MOF-5 based composites have been designed with revamped properties appropriate to the application by altering and fabricating MOF-5 or using a post-synthetic approach. Surface modification the dispersion and impregnation of active substances into the pores of MOF-5 enhances its applicability. The boundless topologies and morphologies of MOF-5 combined with other chemical entities has provided opportunities in various fields, including catalysis, gas storage and sensors. The present review illuminates the leading role of MOF-5 and its composites in contemporary applications based on the current literature in heterogeneous catalysis, H and CO storage and sensors.

This work introduces a dedicated thermostatization strategy for molecular dynamics simulations of gaseous systems. The proposed thermostat is based on the stochastic canonical velocity rescaling approach by Bussi and co-workers and is capable of ensuring an equal distribution of the kinetic energy among the translational, rotational, and vibrational degrees of freedom. The outlined framework ensures the correct treatment of the kinetic energy in gaseous systems, which is typically not the case in standard approaches due to the limited number of collisions between particles associated with a large free mean path.

The design and construction of dual-functional and high-efficiency electrochemical sensors are necessary for quantitative detection. In this work, a zinc-based metal-organic framework (MOF-5) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were combined in situ through a simple solvothermal reaction to obtain an MOF-5@MWCNTs composite. The composite exhibits a large surface area, hierarchical pore structure, excellent conductivity, and enhanced electrochemical performance in the detection of acetaminophenol (AP) and dopamine (DA).

Surface adsorption is a convenient and readily available method for immobilizing enzymes on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Metal-organic framework-5 (MOF-5), isoreticular metal-organic frameworks-3 (IRMOF-3), and multivariate analysis of MOF-5/IRMOF-3 (MMI) with a half-amino group (-NH) were prepared in this study. lipase (TLL) was chosen as a commercially available enzyme for immobilization on the surfaces of these MOFs.

Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials are three-dimensional structures formed by the combination of metal ions and organic ligands. So far, various typical metal organic framework materials have emerged, such as ZIF-8, MOF-5, UIO-66, etc. These traditional MOF materials have the advantages of simple synthesis, high porosity, and high stability, and have great research potential in the field of fluorescence sensing.
