A new geranylated xanthone, nigrolineaxanthone AA () together with 18 known compounds (-) were isolated from latex and twig extracts of Planch. ex T. Anderson. Some of the isolated compounds were assessed for their antidiabetic activities and cytotoxicity against three cancer cell lines. Of these, compounds (IC value of 25.8 ± 0.2 µM), (IC value of 124.8 ± 0.7 µM), and (IC value of 44.4 ± 1.1 µM) exhibited the highest -glucosidase inhibitory, -amylase inhibitory, and glycation inhibition activities, respectively. Compound showed glucose consumption and glucose uptake with IC values of 14.2 ± 0.8 µM and 3.1-fold. Compound displayed cytotoxic activity against colon cancer (SW480) with an IC value of 4.3 ± 0.1 µM), while compound showed cytotoxicity against leukemic cancer (K562) with IC value of 4.4 ± 0.3 µM.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The genus Landolphia is an important resource for African traditional medicine. Among the 60 different accepted species, nearly every plant part of the genus (bark, fruit, latex, leaf, leaf sap, root, rootbark, twig) from 13 species is utilized by traditional healers around Africa. Accordingly, many pharmacological studies (42) were performed on the most common species (11).

The livers of rats subjected to end-to-side portacaval anastomoses were studied 3 to 5 months postoperatively by in vivo and electron microscopy. Compared with sham-operated controls, the livers of portacaval anastomoses animals contained dilated, tortuous networks of sinusoids. The velocity of blood flow in these vessels tended to be slower and more variable than controls, but always progressed toward the hepatic venules.
