Background: Viral diarrhoea is a concern in acute gastroenteritis cases among children younger than 5 years of age. Sapovirus has been noted as an emerging causative agent of acute gastroenteritis worldwide. . The aim of this study was to characterize human sapoviruses targeting the VP1 (NVR and N-terminal) region. Twenty-five samples were randomly selected from 40 sapovirus-positive samples previously detected and analyzed for the VP1 region using the One-Step RT-PCR assay. The PCR products were subjected to Sanger sequencing analysis.
Results: The polyprotein segment (NVR and N-terminal) was successfully amplified from 10/25 samples. Sapovirus GI.1 was the most predominant strain (6/10; 60%), followed by SV-GII.1 (2/10; 20%) and 10% of each GI.3 and GII.3.
Conclusion: Through the partial analysis of the VP1 region, this study provides more data to add on the human sapovirus genetic characterization of circulating strains in South Africa, with the proposition of further analysis of sapovirus VP1 fragments for the viral structure and function.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the outcomes of patients with T1-T2N0M0 glottic squamous cell carcinoma who underwent either partial laryngectomy (PL) or radiotherapy (RT).
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 562 patients treated with RT (n = 151) or PL (n = 411) was conducted. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate outcomes.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the levels of coagulation parameters in elderly patients with severe pneumonia and analyse their correlation with disease severity and prognosis.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 207 elderly patients (aged ≥60 years) with severe pneumonia admitted to our hospital between January 2022 and December 2023. Demographic data, clinical characteristics and coagulation parameters, including prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time and fibrinogen (FIB), were collected.

Objective: To discover the potential association between diminished intraoperative average SctO levels and postoperative neurodevelopmental delays among patients after pediatric living-donor liver transplantation.
Study Design: Patients undergoing living-donor liver transplantation were recruited for this trial. The neurodevelopment status of patients was assessed using the Ages Stages Questionnaires.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the risk factors of hypokalemia after radical resection of esophageal cancer (EC) and establish a nomogram risk prediction model to evaluate hypokalemia risk after esophagectomy. Thus, this study provides a reference for the clinical development of intervention measures.
Methods: Clinical data of EC patients who underwent radical surgery from January 2020 to November 2022 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University were retrospectively collected.

Introduction: Validated models describing the biomechanics of tooth extraction are scarce. This study seeks to perform experimental and numerical characterization of vertical tooth extraction biomechanics in swine incisors with imposed vertical extraction loads. Imaging analysis related mechanical outcomes to tooth geometry and applied loading rate.
