Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) has insidious clinical symptoms, and only a few patients suffer from lower limb swelling, tenderness and dorsal flexion pain. We aimed to explore the ultrasonographic features and risk factors of postoperative lower limb DVT in patients with lower limb fractures. Ninety patients with lower limb fractures admitted from January 1st, 2021 to June 30th, 2023 were selected.

Reduced weight-bearing during spaceflight has been associated with musculoskeletal degradation that risks astronaut health and performance in transit and upon reaching deep space destinations. Previous rodent experiments aboard the international space station (ISS) have identified that the spaceflight-induced molecular arthritic phenotype was characterized with an increase in oxidative stress. This study evaluated if treatment with a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic on orbit could prevent spaceflight-induced damage to the knee and hip articular cartilage, and the menisci in rodents.

Objective: Knee-adjacent subcutaneous fat (kaSCF) has emerged as a potential biomarker and risk factor for OA progression. This study aims to develop an AI-based tool for the automatic segmentation of kaSCF thickness and evaluate the cross-sectional associations between kaSCF, cartilage thickness, MRI-based cartilage T relaxation time, knee pain, and muscle strength independent of BMI.
Design: Baseline 3.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) represents a significant postoperative complication after artificial femoral head replacement, with the incidence increasing proportionally with patient age. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of early postoperative use of intermittent pneumatic compression devices (IPC), followed by the combined use of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) after 48 hours, for the prevention of postoperative lower limb DVT in elderly patients undergoing hip arthroplasty. The retrospective study included 100 elderly patients who underwent unilateral femoral head replacement.

Background: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) and osteoarthritis (OA) are two common diagnoses for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). The early surgical complications in THA for ONFH compared to OA are inconsistently reported. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate whether THA for ONFH was associated with early postoperative complications in comparison to THA for OA using a large database of Japanese patients.
