Background: Sports have a focus on increasing participation, which contributes to increasing population levels of physical activity, social cohesion and longevity of the sport. The primary aim of this study was to examine reasons for drop-out of a popular team sport in Australia, Field Hockey and identify opportunities to increase participation.
Methods: This longitudinal study obtained routinely collected registered player data from Hockey New South Wales over two consecutive years, and survey data from registered players who dropped out. Logistic regression models identified demographic subgroups who were more likely to drop out of sport, and the reasons for dropping out.
Results: In 2018, 8463 (31%) of hockey players did not return to play hockey after the previous season and 805 (10%) of these completed a survey. Specific groups who were more likely to stop playing included 5-6 years (OR: 2.1, 95% CI 1.8-2.6; reference: 12-17 years), females (OR: 1.1, 95% CI 1.0-1.2; reference: males), Indigenous (OR: 1.2, 95% CI 1.1-1.4; reference: non-Indigenous), most disadvantaged (OR: 1.1, 95% CI 1.0-1.2; reference: least disadvantaged) or regional and remote (1.1, 95% CI 1.0-1.2; reference: major cities). Top reasons for drop out were medical/age (17%), change in circumstances (16%) and high cost (13%), lack of time (13%) and lack of enjoyment (7%).
Conclusions: Although Hockey successfully reaches a large proportion of underrepresented groups in sport, these groups are more likely to drop out. Sports should consult these groups to develop enjoyable, flexible, and modifiable versions of the game that are appropriate to their needs.

Purpose: To determine whether preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can reliably determine intraoperative measurements in the Vertiflex Interspinous Spacer (ISS) procedure.
Methods: Patients who underwent Vertiflex ISS with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) and a preoperative MRI available in picture archiving and communication system (PACS) between January 2013 to February 2023 were identified retrospectively from the University of Chicago Medical Center Database. An experienced board-certified pain specialist and well-trained 2nd-year medical student independently performed measurements of the interspinous space where Vertiflex ISSs of various sizes are inserted.

The advancement of rapid-response grid energy storage systems and the widespread adoption of electric vehicles are significantly hindered by the charging times and energy densities associated with current lithium-ion battery technology. In state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, graphite is employed as the standard negative electrode material. However, graphite suffers from polarization and deteriorating side-reactions at the high currents needed for fast charging.

Objective: This study assesses whether longitudinal quantitative pupillometry predicts neurological deterioration after large middle cerebral artery (MCA) stroke and determines how early changes are detectable.
Methods: This prospective, single-center observational cohort study included patients with large MCA stroke admitted to Boston Medical Center's intensive care unit (2019-2024). Associations between time-to-neurologic deterioration and quantitative pupillometry, including Neurological Pupil Index (NPi), were assessed using Cox proportional hazards models with time-dependent covariates adjusted for age, sex, and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score.

Introduction: Metastasis remains a major cause of death among patients with malignant tumors. Radiotherapy is one of the main modalities of cancer treatment. The rapid development of radiotherapy technology has enabled the widespread application of hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFRT) in clinical practice.

Dark current density, a critical parameter in perovskite photodetectors (PPDs), largely depends on the quality of the perovskite film. Herein, we introduce a new small molecule in antisolvent strategy to enhance perovskite film quality during the crystallization of Cs(FAMA)Pb(IBr). COTIC-4Cl, an N-type narrow bandgap nonfullerene small molecule with specific functional group, could strongly bind to the uncoordinated Pb in the perovskite with assistance of antisolvent, enabling rapid supersaturation of perovskite solution and form dense structures under low-temperature annealing.
