The aim of this study was to evaluate whether patients with a non-specific back pain disorder are more likely to be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder than patients with a specific back pain disorder (such as a herniated disc or inflammatory back disorder). This was a retrospective cohort study using Danish registries. Our study population included 24,518 patients younger than 61 years and 12,274 patients older than 61 years. In both subpopulations, 60% had a non-specific back pain diagnosis (BPD). In the younger subpopulation, 2.1% of the patients with a non-specific BPD and 1.3% of the patients with a specific BPD had a psychiatric diagnosis within one year of their BPD. In the older subpopulation, 0.6% of patients had a psychiatric diagnosis in both BPD groups. The most frequent psychiatric diagnoses were stress-related disorders. In the younger subpopulation, patients with non-specific back pain had a higher risk of being diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder than patients with specific back pain (adjusted odds ratio 1.56, 95% confidence interval 1.25-1.94). The type of BPD had no effect on the risk of having a psychiatric diagnosis among older patients.

Various interventions, including caregiver education, psychoeducation, teacher and clinician training and behavioral management embedded with education, are available to enhance awareness and knowledge among caregivers, teachers, and clinicians. This review synthesizes evidence on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of interventions to increase ADHD awareness and knowledge for caregivers, clinicians, and teachers. Peer-reviewed literature was identified through the systematic searches of six databases: MEDLINE Complete, APA PsycInfo, CINAHL Complete, ERIC, Global Health and EconLit.

During qualification for mechanical circulatory support, the comprehensive assessment of a patient's mental state is an integral element of the overall medical evaluation. It encompasses a range of psychosocial issues, and as such provides information helpful in the selection of a suitable candidate for the required treatment, and sometimes identifies contraindications to it. It allows ensuring that the patient meets expectations regarding both mental health stability and adherence to medical recommendations.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has dramatically advanced non-invasive human brain mapping and decoding. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and high-density diffuse optical tomography (HD-DOT) non-invasively measure blood oxygen fluctuations related to brain activity, like fMRI, at the brain surface, using more-lightweight equipment that circumvents ergonomic and logistical limitations of fMRI. HD-DOT grids have smaller inter-optode spacing (~ 13 mm) than sparse fNIRS (~ 30 mm) and therefore provide higher image quality, with spatial resolution ~ 1/2 that of fMRI, when using the several source-detector distances (13-40 mm) afforded by the HD-DOT grid.

Peripheral inflammatory markers (PIMs), such as C-reactive protein (CRP) or white blood cell count (WBC), have been associated with depression severity in meta-analyses and large cohort studies. However, in typically-sized psychoimmunology studies (N < 200) that explore associations between PIMs and neurobiological/psychosocial constructs related to depression and studies that examine less-studied PIMs (e.g.

Background: Protein abundance levels, sensitive to both physiological changes and external interventions, are useful for assessing the Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk and treatment efficacy. However, identifying proteomic prognostic markers for AD is challenging by their high dimensionality and inherent correlations.
Methods: Our study analyzed 1128 plasma proteins, measured by the SOMAscan platform, from 858 participants 55 years and older (mean age 63 years, 52.
