Although the addition of an ileostomy to low anterior resection (LAR) may often be considered preventative of anastomotic leakage (AL), evidence that clearly demonstrates such benefit is lacking. This study aimed to identify the impact of adding an ileostomy upon AL and organ-space surgical site infection (SSI) rates in patients with lower, middle, or upper rectal cancer. This case-control study included rectal cancer patients who had undergone elective LAR in the American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program dataset between 2016 and 2022.

Enhancing nitrogen (N) fixation in rice plants can reduce N fertilizer application and contribute to sustainable rice production, particularly under low-N conditions. However, detailed microbial and metabolic characterization of N fixation in rice stems, unlike in the well-studied roots, has not been investigated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the active N-fixing sites, their diazotroph communities, and the usability of possible carbon sources in stems compared with roots.

An increasing number of cannabis-related products have become available and entered the market, particularly those containing cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-THC). Analytical methods for cannabinoids in urine have been described extensively in the literature. However, methods providing good resolution for distinguishing interferences from THC positional isomers are needed.

Implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with severely atrophic jaws is challenging due to complex anatomical considerations and the limitations of conventional augmentation techniques. This study explores the potential of subperiosteal (juxta-osseous) implants as an alternative solution, using finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate mechanical performance. Realistic jaw models, developed from radiographic data, are utilized to simulate various implant configurations and load scenarios.
