Objective: The objective is to determine associations between stressors and pain across the late-life span.
Method: Multilevel linear modeling was applied separately to harmonized repeated measures data from the Longitudinal Late-Life Health study (LLLH; = 342; 13-year interval) and the Health and Retirement Study (HRS; = 2959; 8-year interval).
Results: In both the LLLH and HRS samples, independent of age, gender, and race, participants with higher average stressor levels experienced more numerous painful conditions and higher pain severity over the study intervals. In the HRS sample, they also experienced higher levels of pain interference. In general, participants' stressor levels did not influence rates of increase in their pain. Gender and race had few moderating effects on associations between stressors and pain.
Discussion: Stressors and pain are associated across the late-life span. Future research should focus on the mediating mechanisms that account for this association and the moderating factors that affect its strength.

Mitochondrial dysfunction and α-synuclein (αSyn) aggregation are key contributors to Parkinson's Disease (PD). While genetic and environmental risk factors, including mutations in mitochondrial-associated genes, are implicated in PD, the precise mechanisms linking mitochondrial defects to αSyn pathology remain incompletely understood, hindering the development of effective therapeutic interventions. Here, we identify the loss of branched chain ketoacid dehydrogenase kinase (BCKDK) as a mitochondrial risk factor that exacerbates αSyn pathology by disrupting Complex I function.

Background: Prior studies found that dental students are affected by various stressors during their studies. Those stressors can exert adverse effects on their (mental) health. Our study addresses the lack of qualitative data on students' perspectives by exploring perceived stressors and resources among dental students and interventions suggested by them.

He reported somatic symptoms of left lumbar pain and passage of small, white stones during urination a few weeks before presentation.
