As the earliest measure of social communication in rodents, ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) in response to maternal separation are critical in preclinical research on neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). While sex differences in both USV production and behavioral outcomes are reported, many studies overlook sex as a biological variable in preclinical NDD models. We aimed to evaluate sex differences in USV call parameters and determine if USVs are differently impacted based on sex in the preclinical maternal immune activation (MIA) model.

Background: Dravet syndrome (DS) is a severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy associated with loss-of-function variants in the SCN1A gene. Although predominantly expressed in the central nervous system, SCN1A is also expressed in the heart, suggesting a potential link between neuronal and cardiac channelopathies. Additionally, DS carries a high risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).

is a common scalp fungal infection with significant implications for public health, particularly in regions where proper hygiene and access to healthcare are limited. Emerging evidence suggests that this disease, particularly in young male individuals, may be related to certain unsanitary practices in barbershop settings, such as the use of contaminated shaving equipment. To increase awareness of the risk of scalp dermatophyte infections by disclosing different cases of that had arisen shortly after hairdressing procedures and providing a comprehensive review of the existing literature.
