Considerable science links diets lower in sodium and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption with better health outcomes. This study describes the evaluation process and outcomes of intervention strategies to reduce sodium in foods and sugar in beverages as part of a collaborative partnership between state public health, academic, community, and healthcare partners in Massachusetts, US. This quasi-experimental, pre-post study used nutrient data linked to observations of foods and beverages available in cafeterias and vending machines in four community healthcare settings to inform intervention strategies and evaluate changes. At post-assessment, beverages with no or very low sugar were significantly more prevalent in vending machines (OR = 1.93, p < 0.001) and cafeterias (OR = 1.83, p = 0.01) and low-sodium packaged foods were significantly more prevalent in cafeterias (OR = 2.45, p < 0.001), but not vending machines. These types of partnerships and tailored feedback and technical assistance strategies may support healthier food and beverage options within healthcare settings that serve patients, their families, and employees each day.

Periodontitis, a common chronic inflammatory condition caused by bacteria, leads to loss of attachment, resorption of alveolar bone, and ultimately tooth loss. Therefore, reducing bacterial load and fostering alveolar bone regeneration are essential components in the treatment of periodontitis. In this study, we prepared smaller-sized Ag-Metal Organic Frameworks (Ag@MOF) and loaded with sodium alginate (Alg) hydrogel for periodontitis treatment.

Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) generally has a favorable prognosis, and radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy is typically used for metastatic DTC that continues to progress and poses life-threatening risks. However, resistance to RAI in metastatic DTC significantly impairs treatment effectiveness. This study aims to identify potential compounds that may influence RAI efficacy.

Fruit spoilage caused by microorganisms results in huge economic losses and health risks worldwide every year. To develop an intelligent antimicrobial material capable of responding to the physiological activity of postharvest fruits and releasing antibacterial agents on demand, we fabricated a pH-responsive film for the release of chlorine dioxide (ClO) using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium chlorite (NaClO) via the solution casting method, with a CMC:NaClO ratio of 1:2 w/w. An acid environment simulated by 4 % acetic acid activated 43 % of ClO released by the film within 7 days.

A comprehensive understanding of the dynamic changes in plasma cells (PCs) during inflammation remains elusive. In this study, we analyzed the distinct responses of PCs across different phases of inflammation in a dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced mouse colitis model. Six-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were treated with 2.

Detrimental effects of terminal heat stress could be mitigated by exogenous application of synthetic compounds by preserving cell membrane integrity and protecting against oxidative damage. A field experiment was conducted to test the application of seven synthetic compounds on wheat growth traits: (1) thiourea (20 mM and 40mM); (2) potassium nitrate (1% and 2%); (3) sodium nitroprusside (400 μg mL-1 and 800μg mL-1 ); (4) dithiothreitol (25 ppm and 50ppm); (5) salicylic acid (100 ppm and 200ppm); (6) thioglycolic acid (200 ppm and 500ppm); and (7) putrescine (4 mM and 6mM). These compounds were applied at the anthesis and grain-filling stages to enhance physio-biochemical traits and yield attributes of wheat (Triticum aestivum ) cvs GW-11 and GW-496 under terminal heat stress.
