The activation and functionalization of dinitrogen with carbon dioxide into useful chemicals containing C-N bonds are significant research projects but highly challenging. Herein, we report that N molecules are dissociated by heterobimetallic CuNb anions assisted by surface plasma radiation, leading to the formation of CuNbN anions; the CuNbN anions can further react with CO to generate products NCO with one C-N bond and NbONCN with two C-N bonds under thermal collision conditions. For the activation of dinitrogen, the plasma atmosphere is conducive to the dissociation of the NN bond, which renders the coupling reactions of N and CO molecules easier to proceed. This is the first report of coupling of N and CO to generate C-N bonds by making good use of the plasma effect to assist in the activation of N molecules. This new strategy with the assistance of plasma provides a practicable route to construct C-N bonds by directly using N and CO at room temperature.

A copper-catalyzed domino addition/cyclization reaction was developed to synthesize novel benzoselenazole-linked 1,2,3-triazole and tetracyclic fused 12-benzo[4,5]selenazole[2,3-]quinazolin-12-one derivatives from isoselenocyanates. This domino reaction efficiently constructed multiple new chemical bonds in a single step, forming either four (one C-Se and three C-) or three (one C-Se and two C-) bonds. The reaction offers several key advantages, including mild conditions, broad substrate compatibility, and straightforward and safe operation.

Composite coatings reinforced with varying mass fractions of SiC particles were successfully fabricated on 316 stainless steel substrates via laser cladding. The phase compositions, elemental distribution, microstructural characteristics, hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the composite coatings were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Vickers hardness testing, friction-wear testing and electrochemical methods. The coatings have no obvious pores, cracks or other defects.

The cycloaddition of aziridines with unsaturated compounds is a valuable method for synthesizing nitrogen heterocycles. However, this process is predominantly substrate-controlled, posing significant challenges in regulating the regioselectivity of the C-N bond cleavage. In this study, we report a nickel-catalyzed dynamic kinetic activation strategy that enables catalyst-controlled activation of aziridines.

Covalent adaptable networks (CANs), a novel class of crosslinked polymers with dynamic covalent bonds, have gained significant attention for combining the durability of thermosets with the reprocessability of thermoplastics, making them promising for emerging applications. Here, we report the first example of poly[2]rotaxane-type CANs (PRCANs), in which oligo[2]rotaxane backbones characterized by densely packed mechanical bonds, are cross-linked through dynamic C-N bond. Oligo[2]rotaxane backbones could guarantee the mechanical properties of CANs.

An unprecedented formal [1+5] cyclization of indoline-derived azadienes with 1,3,5-triazinanes has been realized, providing a facile access to biologically important indoline-spiro-hexahydropyrimidines with good to excellent yields (up to 99% yield). Different from previous reports, this is the first study that indoline-derived azadienes could participate in cyclizations as one-atom synthons. This methodology is also distinguished by not involving any additive or catalyst, readily available starting materials, wide range of substrate applicability, operational simplicity and simultaneously reassembling two C-N and two C-C bonds in one-step reaction.
