Sphingosine 1-phosphate protective effect on human proximal tubule cells submitted to an in vitro ischemia model: the role of JAK2/STAT3.

J Physiol Biochem

November 2024

Laboratório de Biomembranas, Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Article Synopsis
  • * Understanding the underlying mechanisms of AKI is crucial for developing effective treatments, particularly focusing on cell rescue and paracrine factors that aid in tissue repair.
  • * In this study, sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) was found to significantly enhance cell survival and proliferation in kidney proximal tubule cells after I/R injury, demonstrating its potential in promoting tissue repair via specific signaling pathways, including the SAFE and JAK2/STAT3 pathways.

Medical Department B, Division of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Hematology, Palliative Care, Endocrinology and Diabetes, University Hospital Ruppin-Brandenburg, Brandenburg Medical School, Neuruppin, Germany.

Introduction: Previous studies have indicated that activity of fatty acid desaturase 1 (FADS1), is involved in cardiometabolic risk. Recent experimental data have shown that FADS1 knockdown can promote lipid accumulation and lipid droplet formation in liver cells. In this study, we aimed to characterize whether different FADS1 genotypes affect liver fat content, essential fatty acid content and free oxylipin mediators in the blood.
