We synthesized two bichromophoric difluoroboron-β-diketonates (DFB) connected in para and meta positions by using cyclohexane diamine as a chiral bridge (para and meta (R/S)-CyDFB). TD-DFT calculations revealed that the variation in connectivity of the DFB units leads to different spatial arrangements and a chirality inversion of the bichromophoric DFB. Higher g values were obtained in (R/S)-CyDFB connected in para as compared to meta position. Aggregation of para (R/S)-CyDFB in mixture of solvents increase the g values as compared to its monomeric form. Ultrasonication and heating induced the formation of highly ordered nano-helical wires of para (R/S)-CyDFB that increased the g values to 0.015. On the other hand, meta (R/S)-CyDFB failed to form highly ordered self-assembled wires due to hindered H-binding sites. These observations indicate that the chiroptical properties of DFB bi-chromophore system can be modulated with self-assembly and spatial arrangement of the chromophores.

Over the last five decades, diimine rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes have been extensively investigated due to their remarkable and widely tuned photophysical properties. These systems are regarded as attractive targets for design functional luminescent materials and performing fundamental studies of photoinduced processes in transition metal complexes. This review summarizes the latest developments concerning Re(I) tricarbonyl complexes bearing donor-acceptor (D-A) and donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) ligands.

Aggregation-caused quenching effect (ACQ) greatly limits the practical use of many organic luminophores in biomedicine, optics and electronics. The comparative analysis of aggregation characteristics of CHR-bis(BODIPY) bichromophores 1-6 with R = H, Ph, MeOPh and various linking positions (α,α-; α,β-; β,β- and β',β'-) in THF-water mixtures with different water fractions or dye concentrations is first presented in this article. Both the linking style 1-4 and the arylation of the spacer with phenyl (Ph-) 5 or methoxyphenyl (MeOPh-) 6 substituents strongly affect the formation of luminophore aggregated forms in binary THF-water mixtures.

Photocatalysis holds great promise for changing the way value-added molecules are currently prepared. However, many photocatalytic reactions suffer from quantum yields well below 10%, hampering the transition from lab-scale reactions to large-scale or even industrial applications. Molecular dyads can be designed such that the beneficial properties of inorganic and organic chromophores are combined, resulting in milder reaction conditions and improved reaction quantum yields of photocatalytic reactions.
