Heatstroke is caused by a loss of control over body temperature. There is a high risk of death if it is not treated quickly and properly. In this article, we report a clinical case of a 21-year-old male patient treated for heatstroke with extravascular temperature control.

Nanoparticles (approximately 100 nm in diameter) composed of lipid layers containing drugs or biologically active substances are attracting increasing attention in various fields, including medicine, as well as for signal transduction between cells. However, the separation of such nanoparticles conventional HPLC is challenging, often resulting in the clogging and collapse of nanoparticles, as well as a low separation efficiency. Thus far, no HPLC column capable of efficiently separating two types of 100 nm-sized nanoparticles in a short time has been reported.

PdNi Trimer Sites Drive Efficient and Durable Hydrogen Oxidation in Alkaline Media.

J Am Chem Soc

Beijing National Laboratory for Molecular Sciences (BNLMS), Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China.

Anion-exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC) is a cost-effective hydrogen-to-electricity conversion technology under a zero-emission scenario. However, the sluggish kinetics of the anodic hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) impedes the commercial implementation of AEMFCs. Here, we develop a Pd single-atom-embedded NiN catalyst (Pd/NiN) with unconventional PdNi trimer sites to drive efficient and durable HOR in alkaline media.

Liquid crystal monomers induce placental development and progesterone release dysregulation through transplacental transportation.

MOE Key Laboratory of Pollution Processes and Environmental Criteria, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300350, China.

Embryonic and fetal development can be affected during gestation by exposure to xenobiotics that cross the placenta. Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) are emerging contaminants commonly found in indoor environments; however, whether they can cross the placenta and affect placental development remains unexplored. Here, we develop an evaluation system that integrates human biomonitoring, uterine perfusion in pregnant rats, and placental cells.

The Metropolitan Area of São Paulo (MASP) in southern Brazil is impacted by high ozone levels posing significant threats to its urban forests and the Atlantic Forest remnants. These green areas, covering 540 km and constituting 30% of MASP's territory, necessitate an urgent assessment of air pollution impacts on their flora. Our study investigates the effects of atmospheric pollution on the morphoanatomical and physiological responses of four native tree species (Alchornea sidifolia, Casearia sylvestris, Guarea macrophylla, and Machaerium nyctitans) across two Atlantic Forest remnants in MASP.
